What I liked about the Mondasian Cybermen is how... primitive they were design-wise. They still look human and I think they act more human, too. It's super creepy and unsettling compared to the monochrome Iron Men we see in NuWho

So no Christmas special, and nothing new to the new year, what was everyone's consensus on Jodie and S11?

I think 'The Battle of...' was one of the WORST season finales in the shows history.

Didn't mind Jodie but it was an awful season and Bradley and gang were hideous assistants

Jodie did the best she could woth a terrible script and poor storytelling, and now has to take the blame for ruining the series for being a woman when it actually had nothing to do with her ability.

Jodie was great, I loved her take on the character, the script was awful as were all of the companions, the next series needs a massive change

People mistake the bad script for bad acting on jodies part and it frustrates the HELL out of me.

Yeah but no matter what she did she would have been slaughtered, I think she did a really good job with what she was given, but she could have given an Oscar worthy performance and people still would have slagged it off, cause she’s a woman and the thousand year old alien who travels through time and space and regenerates, just HAS to be a man for it to be ’realistic‘

Jodie was great, as was Bradley, surprisingly enough but the other two assistants were trash and the scripts were beyond terrible.

They threw too much at the wall, you had basically four new characters to get used to, rather than the usual one or on the rare occasion, two. Then you had no returning monsters, which put further pressure on the episodes to make up a new threat each week, instead of being able to use old monsters as a vehicle for character progression. The last problem was that there was just no tension.

Jodie is a talented actress and made do with what she had, but it was still dire and no-where near classic Who.

But I think they needed to keep Bill for the transition this time round. Instead they lumped in a load of underdeveloped "filler" companions and it doesn't work. They tried for a "clean break" but overshot the landing strip. |

I agree I think when they overlapped the companions it worked better. Thats why the master/mistress? Should have been in a couple of first episodes with Jodie. I think that worked have worked really well

Oh yeah that was an emotional scene but even that episode has some dodgy writing and acting

Jodie was fine, the scripts didn't allow her to be great but she did the best thing she could with what she was given. Bradley was the best thing about her season.
The entire season just added nothing - it didn't expand on any of the old enemies, I can't close my eyes and "picture" any of the new ones. Rosa is the only memorable episode, but that doesn't save the season. It was just a wasted year basically. I really wouldn't care if the Beeb decided to just throw it in the bin and have a new S11 with an entirely new cast. |

It was odd that every time a companion carries over from one Doctor to another we have a transition where they struggle to accept this new person as the Doctor but the one time that change was bigger than many before it, we didn't have any companion to react to the fact the Doctor was now female.
I mean, I get they didn't want to make a big thing of it (nor should they), but the clean break hasn't helped ease Jodie into the show's universe I don't think. |

I was sceptical when he was cast but he was the only compelling companion in S11. Ryan (was that his name? I can't remember) was a terribly written character and the actor wasn't good at all and Yaz was played by a decent actress but the character was a nothing character that was nothing more than a spectator even in episodes that focused on her.
Bradley turned in the best performance and had the most well rounded character of the three. I think the only time Season 11 worked well was when they dealt with human tragedy and more complex issues. Both the Rosa Parks and Punjab episodes were great because they focused on the reality of the times. Chibnall can't write a good alien threat to save his life but Season 11 shined when it dealt with strictly human themes/ |

Loved Bill and actually think shed have been perfect to transition into Jodie’s series just to gove that familiarity with the show.
