Default The Circle... Lessons in Reality TV

Looking at the production of this show, Big Brother could *really* learn from its approach.

The graphics, production value and overall edit look so great on screen. It feels like a very modern show with a clear brand, and a clear message.

It's also creating it's own iconography, which is what shows like these need. Like Big Brother's eye, The X Factor's 'X' - The Circle's, well... circle... just feels memorable and clear. And I don't just mean the logo itself, obviously.

It's how this imagery has been fed through everything - from the studio, to the graphics, the colours, the lighting, ect, ect - everything feels consistent and on-brand.

In only two series, the show feels like it could become a staple. It's not pretending to be anything it isn't - it's a reality TV show that has a social experiment at its core, and it communicates what it is very well.

It's fun, but not tacky. It's relevant, but not gimmicky enough to alienate an older audience.

Even down to the audience and studio set-up - it feels fresh.

These are the kinds of elements that C5s BB lacked. And if BB ever did return, it should look to The Circle on how to make a modern, social reality TV show that is young and relevant *without* feeling cheap and tacky.

Example: The Circle's live studio set-up is exactly what BB should've evolved into.

The OTT and tacky outdoor audience never worked for BB - it cheapened everything, particularly on C5. By placing everything indoors, and scaling it down a bit, BB could've felt a little more upmarket.

And that's the key... TV nowadays has to feel fresh and upmarket, without feeling too pretentious. There's a balance to be had, and The Circle masters it.

What does everyone think?

* The show could certainly be improved, but compared to the past seven years of BB - it's miles ahead. The Circle could diversity its cast a bit, and should get rid of the narrator, for example - as just two examples of improvement needed.
