Well he was in a band himself and a big fan of the Madchester scene. So more likely the Hacienda.

What about the UK did Thatcher conserve? Blair - like Thatcher - was a neoliberal capitalist. Whether or not either could be accurately described as "conservative" (as opposed to a Conservative) is another matter... but whether or not they were Marxist really is not a debate. Describing Blair as a Marxist is just mad.

"Many of the Blairites apparatus were student Marxists who remained radical for the rest of their lives"

He's on twitter, go challenge him on his opinions. I'm sure he'd be happy to debate with you.

But you never win against me, you'd have more chance against Hitchens. You're a glutton for punishment.

Or to put it another way.

Labour: Let's make everybody dependent on the Government
Tories: Let's make everyone take responsibility for their own actions

Exactly. Why should they? Uni shouldn't be elitist. Everyone should have the opportunity to get there on their merits and talent. Not be hindered by where they're from or how well or worse off their family are.

'Social Democrat' is probably a better way to describe Blair's politics than Marxist or Neo-Liberal.

I remember Peter Hitchens saying an interesting thing on the morning of the EU referendum result - words to the effect that the two 'parties' formed during the campaign Vote Leave and Vote Remain were a better way to divide politics now than the current political parties (generally not just on the EU).
