Has anyone watched the 2 part sky crime documentary about this case?
Michelle Carter stands trial for sending aggressive texts to her boyfriend encouraging suicide before he was found dead by suicide in his car. |

...I’ve just read that the documentary has made many people reassess their thoughts because of her own mental health and aspects of her life...I don’t know if that’s what you’re feeling, also...

I’d have more sympathy for her had she not told him to get back into the car when he was having doubts..

I did slightly change my mind though just not because of her mental health but once you see the context from the text conversations. I do think she deserves the sentence she got. I also think that Conrad still would've committed suicide and not be alive today even if he had never met Michelle, that's something I wouldn't have thought if I hadn't seen this documentary. There being a mental health consideration doesn't necessarily mean that she was out of her kind / had no idea what she was doing at the time, to be fair. It is a horrible story but I do think it's best framed as two sadly not-very-well individuals who found each other and compounded their issues rather than someone "evil for no reason" (which, as always, is hocus pocus nonsense).
Sadly its not uncommon for people with serious mental health issues to end up in close relationships and friendships with others in the same boat, and it can become cyclical rather than supportive. It's also not really possible for someone to be "convinced" or "talked into" completing suicide if they didn't actually intend to... But of course her real crime is in not alerting someone who would be able to stop him. Whether or not he would have stopped on his own or gone through with it without her messages is essentially guesswork... There's no way to know if he'd have continued to complete suicide or not if she hadn't urged him to. |
