In the States they might well have run those sentences consecutively, not concurrently. That's the way to do it.

Did members know that one day in prison equals two days in the outside world, that’s why very few prisoners do their full sentence.

And if they admit their guilt as soon as possible they will get a drastic reduction in their sentence.

They can serve consecutive sentences here in the UK but they're not so readily handed out. How this bloke escaped a whole life sentence is shocking. But I'm happy with his rough justice.
