I just found out another very cool yet eerie "Easter Egg" from this movie, showing Tarantino's attention to detail.

It's about the ending so spoilers...

Spoiler:

When Tex, Sadie, Katie and Flower Child pull up to Cielo Drive in the old banger of a car the song playing on the radio is "Twelve Thirty (Young Girls are Coming to the Canyon)" by The Mamas & The Papas.

The song is very poignant as it states "Young Girls are Coming to the Canyon", and of course that night they were, well three of them and Tex, coming to Benedict Canyon to slay everyone in "Terry's house"...

Interestingly, Tate and her friends were murdered at approximately... yep, 12:30 am.

Terrifyingly, also, there's a rumour that when the Police went into the property the following morning, after searching around the house they found that in the record player (with the needle still placed on the record may I add, at the end of play) - was... "Twelve Thirty", the very song.

So spooky!

First of all I can’t believe I nearly listened to my family telling me it was awful, the worst film ever and had no story. Because that was ****ing everything.

The attention detail from the soundtrack, to the colours used, the shot variation and repetition. Just everything had a reason and a place. I’m so glad I got to see it before my cinema shut for a few weeks.

Landed for you mate! So happy you enjoyed.

I honestly don't see how anyone can say it's a bad movie, like okay it's their opinion and maybe they're just not into this whole subject matter, but the sheer craftsmanship and as you said attention to detail in EVERY single meaningful shot/sequence is unmatched so to just dismiss it as "boring" or whatever like I've seen some say is ridic. An incredible movie!

And for the length, it didn’t drag one moment. I was hooked start to finish and completely invested in the story.

Leonardo Dicaprio is such a fantastic actor, in a way I'm disappointed that the Oscar he won wasn't even one of his best imo, this would be right up there for me. Brad Pitt was really good too, I loved his character and his scene with Bruce Lee was probably the best of the film for me. I also really liked Leo's scenes with the little girl.

Glad Sharon got a nice ending this time, such an awful story in r/l
Yes, I love Di Caprio. He's one of my favourites.

The Netflix miniseries is looking more and more likely, Brad Pitt has now mentioned in an interview that it may be in the works.

People are basically craving to see the original 4 hour version of this movie with more Tate, Manson, Tate's friends, added James Marsden, Tim Roth etc.

Quote:
It's beginning to look like the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood miniseries may actually happen at Netflix. Actor Brad Pitt confirmed that Quentin Tarantino has discussed the idea after being happy with the way The Hateful Eight miniseries came together. The idea behind the project would be to take the massive amount of footage Tarantino originally shot, edit it in, and then split the new edit down into episode-length cuts.

In a new interview, Brad Pitt was asked about Quentin Tarantino taking on a Once Upon a Time in Hollywood miniseries. Pitt says, "Yeah, he's talked about it. It's a pretty arousing idea." And for fans of the movie, Pitt's opinion is spot on. Even though the final cut in theaters is just over two-and-a-half hours, many viewers expressed wanting more. Plus, some of the material shown in the promotional clips for the movie were not included in the final cut. Pitt had this to say about the idea of a Once Upon a Time in Hollywood miniseries.

"It's almost the best of both worlds. You have the cinema experience that exists, but you can actually put more content in the series format."
Quentin Tarantino's original cut of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was famously four hours and twenty minutes. There's more than enough extra footage lying around for Tarantino to make a director's cut and then slice it into episodes, though it sounds like it would be a pretty big undertaking. Footage that was left on the cutting room floor includes James Marsden as Burt Reynolds, Danny Strong as Dean Martin, a scene where Margot Robbie's Sharon Tate goes for a swim, and Tim Roth as Jay Sebring's butler.

There's even more unused footage of 10-year old actress Julia Butters that didn't make it into Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. According to producer David Heyman, "Butters' cut scenes were so good it would have made her a lock for an Oscar nomination." This is just some of the unused footage that we know about. There is a lot more and the idea of Quentin Tarantino going in and making an alternative version of his latest hit is something to get excited about.

As for whether or not the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood miniseries ends up happening, that is unclear at the moment. For now, it seems like Quentin Tarantino is seriously thinking about it. Neither Netflix nor Tarantino have confirmed the plans to do the miniseries idea, but that makes sense since the movie is still in theaters. Regardless, the director has talked in the past about his excitement for "fuller versions" of his work to come out and has already teased the idea of a "extended miniseries" of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and the possibility of a spin-off show too.

Current Box Office takings: $313.4 Million.

The movie has made over three times it's budget ($90-odd Million) which is what is properly considered a "success" I believe. Deserved!

Currently #3 in all-time Tarantino takings:

Quote:
1. Django Unchained - $425,368,238
2. Inglourious Basterds - $321,455,689
3. Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood - $313,449,668
4. Pulp Fiction - $213,928,762
5. Kill Bill Vol. I - $180,949,045
6. The Hateful Eight - $155,760,117
7. Kill Bill Vol. II - $152,159,461
8. Jackie Brown - $39,673,162 (Domestic)
9. Grindhouse - $25,422,088
10. Reservoir Dogs - $2,832,029 (Domestic)
Inglorious & Django to beat to top the list, not far off second place but I think it'll struggle to match/top Django now.

I literally thought this was the scenes released and rushed to it but it's just snippets/pics of scenes that didn't make it that have surfaced online or featured in the trailers/tv spots.

Okay, I watched this ages ago (around the time we had that bank holiday) and it was actually good. Still not Tarantino's best, but enjoyable nonetheless.

I watched it at Curzon, too, which enhanced the experience in a positive way.

Someone's listed all of the Tarantino-specific Easter Eggs in this movie on Wiki and how they relate to his previous movies or more specifically, "The Tarantinoverse":

Quote:
1. A scene from Dalton's The 14 Fists of McCluskey, where his character burns Nazis with a flamethrower, is a reference to Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds.

2. Cliff Booth is a reference to Brad Pitt's character in Inglourious Basterds, Aldo Raine, who takes the cover of a stuntman.

3. When Dalton and Booth get back from Italy they walk by the blue mosaic wall in LAX, the same wall that the title character in Tarantino's Jackie Brown (Pam Grier) moves past in the opening credits of that film.

4. In the film, Lee engages in a fight with Cliff Booth on the set of The Green Hornet. Booth refers to Lee as Kato leading up to the fight. The Green Hornet theme song is featured in Tarantino's Kill Bill: Volume 1. The masks worn by the Crazy 88 gang in that film are the same as Lee's mask as Kato in The Green Hornet.

5. The car Booth drives is a 1964 blue Volkswagen Karmann Ghia convertible. It is the same year, color, make and model of the car that Beatrix "the Bride" Kiddo (Uma Thurman) drives in Kill Bill: Volume 2.

6. In the Tarantino-penned Natural Born Killers, Mickey Knox (Woody Harrelson) is told his TV ratings have outdone every serial slayer except for Charles Manson. Knox replies, "Well, it's pretty hard to beat the king." Ralph Meeker serves as DiCaprio's biggest influence for Rick Dalton. Meeker's performance in Kiss Me Deadly was the inspiration for Butch Coolidge (Bruce Willis) in Pulp Fiction.

7. Rick Dalton's 1966 Cadillac de Ville is exactly the same car driven by Mr. Blonde (Michael Madsen) in Reservoir Dogs. It is owned by Madsen.

8. Tarantino-invented fast food chain Big Kahuna Burger appears on a billboard.

9. Two new Tarantino-universe brands are introduced: Chattanooga Beer and Wolf's Tooth dog food (which may be a reference to Pulp Fiction's Winston "The Wolf" Wolfe).

10. The final scene features Rick Dalton in a commercial for fictional Red Apple cigarettes, which appear in many Tarantino films.
To add, also of course you have

11. The actual set of "Bounty Law" being the exact set used for the town in Django Unchained.

12. Kurt Russell playing a "stuntman" Randy - an obvious link and reference to his character Stuntman Mike in Death Proof.

Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ to Be Re-Released With New Footage

Quote:
Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” is heading back to the silver screen.

Sony Pictures, the studio behind Tarantino’s latest feature, announced the movie will be re-released with 10 minutes of additional footage, including four new scenes. The lengthier version of “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” which already clocked in at two hours and 41 minutes, will hit 1,000 North American locations starting on Oct. 25.

“Audiences have shown tremendous support for this movie, and we look forward to offering them another opportunity to see the film as it’s meant to be seen — in theaters on the big screen — with more sights and sounds of the sixties from Quentin Tarantino as an added treat,” Adrian Smith, Sony’s president of domestic distribution, said in a statement.

The news comes following Tarantino’s announcement that he would not re-cut the movie to appease Chinese censors, putting its Oct. 25 debut in that territory “on hold.” Exhibitors say China was displeased with the movie’s portrayal of Bruce Lee.

Even without a China release, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” is already Tarantino’s second-highest grossing movie ever behind “Django Unchained” ($425 million). So far, the R-rated film has earned $139 million in North America and $228 million overseas from a $90 million budget.

Tarantino’s ninth feature is expected to be an Oscar frontrunner and stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt as an aging actor and his longtime stunt double, respectively, who are struggling to find their place in a changing Hollywood. At the same time, Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie), the up-and-coming actress married to director Roman Polanski, moves next door. The drama, which pays tribute to the golden age of showbiz, is set in the late 1960s against the backdrop of the Manson family murders.
Please include the UK! I need to see it in the cinema one more time!
