Default A&E waiting times in England at their worst on record

A&E waiting times are at their worst on record as the NHS comes under intense pressure before what doctors and hospital bosses fear will be a very tough winter for the service.

Less than three-quarters (74.5%) of people who sought care at A&E unit in England in October were treated and then discharged, admitted or transferred within four hours – the smallest proportion since the target was introduced in 2004.

That is far below the 95% of patients that ministers and NHS chiefs say should be dealt with by A&E staff within four hours.

The problem with A&E is so many use it like a GP clinic, if you are actually ill they whip you in pdq, I took my son about two years ago as he had severe chest pain they took him straight in (he had a collapsed lung), he had ECG, bloods everything done as quickly as humanly possible, when we came out we had to wait in the waiting area for some paperwork as he was referred on, and there were two men, one of who was complaining at reception about the wait, apparently they had similar names and one of them had gone into Triage twice... then they said they would come back in the morning (this was about 3am) at which point the receptionist said they shouldn't be in A and E if they felt they could just leave, they were both there with back pain... I mean what are the odds of you and your mate needing A and E for backpain at the same time

Unfortunately too many people think it’s ok to use it like a pop in clinic.
We have a separate area for kids, they go straight through.
Triage is pretty soon after you go in, then it’s a question of who needs attention first.
People living longer is a big strain, especially if they have no family willing or able to look after them.

The tories are slowly destroying the NHS and the people who will be affected most by it's destruction are cheering them on. I have no faith in the British public.

Yeah I get funding is an issue as well, but I don’t think funding alone will cut waiting times, along with people not using a and e for actual emergencies there is also massive waste that needs to be addressed

I don't know why you are posting that to me, I agree with you about funding, but funding isn't the only issue, see my previous post …

I didn't realise it would be an issue. I'll edit my post an remove you from the quoted bit.

Its not an issue but I have already agreed with you about funding, so you are preaching to the converted, you don't need to remove it!
