It will be met with disdain because its utter rot, Kazanne. Of course there are always people who will abuse a system but it is a TINY percentage and the judgemental "well they have x, y, z" comments are just nonsense.

Phones are not a luxury item in 2019,they are an essential. They are the cheapest way to access the Internet and having Internet / email is needed for benefits, jobseeking, all sorts of basics. Also suggesting that people - often people with kids - shouldn't have a TV or games console is just nonsense. They are basically the CHEAPEST form of entertainment for people who can't afford things like classes, theatre, cinema etc. so are they meant to just stare at the walls? When their lives are already miserable?

As for alcohol and tobacco, again, these are things people are hooked on because they are poor and unhappy. It's so short-sighted to say they should just stop and use the money for food .

The only thing I could just about get on board with is takeaways... They can be a huge money-sink even for those of us who can afford them... But honestly, I highly doubt many people using food banks are having a weekly Domino's on the side.

you can't just turn up at a food bank and say give us some food either.

It's an essential service to prevent people starving, it shouldn't be criticised in any way shape or form until the underlying problems are addressed.

I would imagine more people will have to rely on food banks after Brexit. I think everyone, whichever side of the debate you're on, knows there will be a period of massive economic uncertainty afterwards and more families will be pushed into poverty. Scary times ahead and I cannot bring myself to pour any scorn on people in hardship. I don't care what they have or don't have, not being able to feed your children must be awful. Thank god for food banks et al

No one has criticised its basic function,I said it should be for the very needy but I know myself its been abused by people who really don't need it, you may not like that but that's what Ive seen , one person or a hundred doing that is wrong, imo. plus I know someone who went up our local food bank and got food with no bother at all. popped it in her trolley then popped to Costa for a coffee. It needs vetting better .

That was ignored as EU meddling ... sickening I hope this country wakes up soon, the food bank comment was bad enough, but payday loans!! :/
They just want people to drown in debt, that is the kind of thing that drives many to suicide, I think that's what they want if I'm honest... seriously.

It’s not easy to abuse a food bank, my parents went through a really tough time a while back and had to rely on a good bank a few times and it was a tough process to prove you needed to use the services, they don’t just hand out bags of produce to anyone that asks and the notion that they do is an outright lie and sets a very dangerous preceden, imho obviously.

...both of those comments are right up there with Reece-Mogg’s ‘common sense’ comment about the victims of Grenfell...it’s becoming more and more obvious what this present government feel about the most vulnerable in society..and one of the most sad things is that these comments are becoming so open and frequent because the vulnerable have been de-humanised so much over recent years...

They have I agree Ammi, all that 'poverty porn' a few years ago they were relentless on every channel. With strange cut aways to trainers, big tvs and such they were specifically designed to instil division.

But how do people with very little afford such things? They are like anyone targetted by advertising in the form of 'affordable loans', remember wonga? They were the trailblazers of unsecured personal loans, charging up to 4000% interest! Loan sharks don't charge that much! then came Brighthouse for all that must have tech with similar charges. Now there's quickquid and petfect home who operate in the same principle but have to be more open as to the real cost if 'low cost' loans.

it's worked a treat! Just look at how they are being framed now, once again the demonisation has begun. Saddled with years worth of debt on top of changes brought in with universal credit and the 2 child limit on working tax credit the only option for many is the food bank. ... and what's being blamed as the cause? Budgeting! It is budgeting all these debts that created the problem in the first place, and the solution? ... more payday loans, more debt in an endless cycle.

This is the poverty trap, how do you get out of poverty? Get a secure job that pays a living wage, not a zero hr agency job and have affordable childcare available. The politics of division have to end.

i think we all need to wake up to the fact that the world isn't the same as it was even a mere 3 or 4 years ago. The reason politicians are voicing the things they do is because people do, they are reflecting the voices of people in the UK.

If Boris wins on Thursday, people will have democratically elected him. We live in a polarised world with no sensible middle ground any more. Any outcome on Friday will be a nightmare for me whether it be one party with a good majority or a hung parliament.

I have a feeling Labour will get in and IF they do they better deliver what they have promised and would probably do better to change their leader, but they will probably do what they always do spend, spend, spend, get us almost bankrupt again and leave it for the Tories to clean up yet again,so they (the Tories)then get blamed for trying to cut corners to get us back on track, and so it goes on.
