Unbelievable cinematography! It's a shoo-in for an Oscar in that category

Planet of the Apes (2001)

Tim Burton's remake of the 1968 Sci-Fi classic.

Mark Wahlberg plays Leo, an astronaut who, after attempting to retrieve his trained chimpanzee following a test gone wrong , crash lands on a planet inhabited by intelligent apes, who treat humans as their slaves. With the help of an ape named Ari, Leo starts a rebellion.

I really enjoyed this film. It gets a lot of unwanted hate and while it's not as great as the original or the reboot films, it's still good in its own way. The performances are amazing, especially Tim Roth's Thade, the Ape general with a burning hatred for the human race and plans to exterminate them all. He's truly terrifying and steals every scene he's in. The make-up is amazing, very realistic.

The ending always gives me chills. Poor Leo.

8/10.

Saw the new Star Wars... I enjoyed it overall BUT I have two gripes that almost ruined the whole thing.

Spoiler:

1) I get that they were trying to pay tribute with the Leia stuff. They used old footage and cut it together with new conversations...

...and it's really obvious. It doesn't quite fit... the scenes play like bad video game cutscenes and it's really jarring. Like the characters are saying totally random **** to fit in with the footage they had of her.

2) Rey and Kylo Ren kissed and it was unnecessary, didn't really work in context, and felt a bit incesty. I don't think their connection was romantic, at all, it was a sort of "unexplainable connection through the force" and they didn't need to have them locking lips at the last second. Just weird

On the plus side though, at least they explained that Leia was trained as a Jedi by Luke and didn't just spontaneously start using the force out of nowhere in episode 7!

Spoiler:

...yeAh I would agree with both of those...there wasn’t really any value to having the kiss, it didn’t add anything, I don’t think...and Leia’s scenes were quite upsetting actually...it felt like it gave a messed/botchy vibe for her to leave on, which I hated because I adore her...

Spoiler:

I think the kiss actually takes AWAY from their story... the whole "Dyad in the force" thing... their link is something beyond human and totally unrelated to the "normal" human connection. That sort of made sense... ish... more like "force twins" than anything else. But to then make it a "romantic" thing? totally unnecessary and like I said it just felt kind of incesty in a few ways ... one with it being more like a sibling bond, and also, Kylo's actual mother (Leia) was obviously also a mother-figure to Rey who was an orphan. Ew.

And yes I agree the Leia scenes were just kind of sad. It was really obvious that she wasn't reacting to what was going on which just hammered home the fact that she WASN'T there more than anything else. I get what they were trying to do but someone should have pointed out early on that it wasn't working. A lot of the time they had her just stood around doing/saying nothing and looking really blank... honestly a bit like a ghost haunting the screen. It was ... off.

I enjoyed the film enough while watching.

Story-wise the main problem with this sequel trilogy is that the story was supposed to end with Return of the Jedi. So they never really knew what to do with it.

I think they were pandering to the 'Reylo' fans on social media who have shipped those two being together.

Although there is an audio recording of a group of them reacting to the film, and they are furious when Rey names herself 'Skywalker' at the end instead of 'Solo'.

...yeah they were perfectly cast, Luke...their marriage story was beautiful and brutal and they showed those faces that marriage can be, so well...although they were the two leads... I also though that Julie Hagerty and Merritt Wever were particularly wonderful as well......Merritt is becoming one of my favourite actresses atm...

It was weird at first because i'm use to Scarlett being a total badass and Adam being a villain but i was amazed at the chemistry and their performance. The movie,Scarlett and Adam definitely deserve all the nominations they got. I loved Laura Dern as well.

Disney's Hercules - I quite enjoyed the Film, and it was nice to see Disney try and do a love interest to the main character that actually has relevance to the main plot of the Film, Meg also has a bit more personality than I was expecting too for the love interest of the Film, so overall I was pleasantly surprised.

I think that Hades and Phil steal the Film though, their personalities just appeal to me the most along with Pain and Panic.

The only thing that I'd fix with the Film is that it should've had a longer running time as the Film felt a bit rushed towards the end (which I blame Disney for rather than the main writers of this particular Film) as this kinda story imo needs about 2 hours running time to tell the story to it's fullest.

Overall - 8/10.

Terminator 3 - I enjoyed it, I thought it was a good storyline to continue on from T2, not as good as the first two but still better than the other ones that they're pretending didn't exist 6.5/10

Just Mercy - 10/10

One of the best films I've watched in recent years. I'd rank it beside the likes of The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile - it was that good. Jordan and Foxx were both excellent and gave Oscar-worthy performances.
