Default The next Democrat leader

For those in or interested in the USA ...

Who do you think should be the next Democrat leader, for the 2020 elections?

I'd say either Tulsi or Bernie, if the aim is to remove Trump.

Warren is just a liar, and basically a Bernie ripoff. Mayor Buttboy seems sketchy, because he completely fabricated the black support he claimed to have.

Tulsi and Bernie are both non-establishment, and while they're from different "factions" of the left, they're still better than the other candidates, past and present.

I like how scared some of the others are of Tulsi. Harris criticised her for talking to Trump about his foreign policies, and in the same debate said one of her own good points was that she can speak with both sides (or was that Warren?)

Hillary Clinton seemed to think "no-one in Washington likes Bernie" was a burn, but being non-establishment is part of his appeal!

Bernie, he’s the only truly consistent one left in the race, he never wavers on his beliefs and his promises and I believe him to be the most honest of the lineup, his numbers are great, he’s leading in many places by a good margin, even in the southern and mid states he’s doing well

The presidential nominee doesn't become party leader, the system doesn't work like that

Tulsi is a russian agent, and Bernie isn't capable of getting the votes of those in the middle ground, so neither

Only Bernie has a chance of truly beating Trump, I think. He needs the nomination.

None of the smear tactics against employed against Bernie by the media has worked and if you stick him in a debate with Trump, Bernie would tear him to pieces. The reason why Trump won last time is because his lies swung enough of the unions and working class to his side but Bernie is likely to snatch 'em back since he has a lot of support from former Trump voters because the numbers generally back up Bernie's campaign promises and goals.

Biden would be a disaster, Hillary 2.0. If he ends up getting the nomination, Trump will win again since he can deploy the same mudslinging tactics against Biden as he did with Hillary.

Warren would be better than Biden but Trump will go in hard on the 'Pocahontas' thing and I think a lot of voters would rally against her in the same way they did against Hillary.

Mayor Pete would be catastrophic. He's a terrible candidate who doesn't track well with important minority votes and he's basically a republican but that won't help him snatch votes away from Trump since the bible belt and homophobes will rally to Trump because of Pete's sexuality. Terrible policies and an easy target for Trump to use underhanded tactics against.

I think it holds water but she's not a willing agent. I think she's being set up as the next Jill Stein tbh. She's not working with anyone but Russia are definitely pushing her as a potential independent candidate to weaken the eventual Democratic candidate.

Bernie would definitely destroy Trump in debates. In the primaries etc while the other candidates were bitching about Trump and his twitter, he was talking about policy. He actually has things to say, unlike most of them.

Warren lied about being a Native, she lied about Bernie saying that a woman could never be president ...
I knoooowwww,"politicians lie, SACRE BLEU" ... But one is lying about her identity for her own advantage, the other is an outright smear.
Plus she sounds exactly like the Junk Goblin from Labyrinth.

It's a shame really, her policies are really good but she's too easy for the republicans to smear and destroy and she hasn't helped her case with underhanded tactics towards Bernie when people responded better to them both being on the same page.

Hmm, the thing about Russia accusations is they've become a bit of a "meme", without solid proof they should be held back, lest people just roll their eyes. That other guy even got asked what would he the first thing he'd say when Putin phoned him

To be fair I see smears and underhanded tactics the same way as lies - "politicians gonna politish", so I'm not going to hold it against her, and while she and Bernie do have similar politics I prefer Bernie brand?

I've always stuck with Bernie, I was devastated when he was out of the running in the last election .

Poor guy now looks exhausted, hope he gets more support for the next election .

Theres always Klobuchar

Secretary Clinton embarrassed herself with her recent Bernie bashing. Bernies now tops the poll so dont rule out more meddling by the Dem establishment. Her 'No one likes Bernie' comment as been pointed out will work in his favour. Bernie is the most popular senator for the sixth year running so Secretary Clintons comments show she's completely out of touch with the population.

Poll Finds Bernie Sanders Is Most Popular Politician In America

They were talking on the radio about how the Iowa caucuses primary tonight works. It sounded quite quaint.

Quote:
The Iowa caucuses operate very differently from the primary election used by most other states (see U.S. presidential primary). The caucuses are generally defined as "gatherings of neighbors". Rather than going to polls and casting ballots, Iowans gather at a set location in each of Iowa's 1,681 precincts. Typically, these meetings occur in schools, churches, public libraries, or even individuals' houses. Caucuses are held every two years, during both the presidential and midterm election seasons, but those that receive national attention are the presidential preference caucuses, held every four years. The rules of the caucus process to determine delegates to national conventions are determined by the party, and differ substantially between the Democratic and Republican Parties.....

.....Democratic Party

Each precinct divides its delegate seats among the candidates in proportion to caucus goers' votes. Participants indicate their support for a particular candidate by standing in a designated area of the caucus site (forming a preference group). An area may also be designated for undecided participants. Then, for roughly 30 minutes, participants try to convince their neighbors to support their candidates. Each preference group might informally deputize a few members to recruit supporters from the other groups and, in particular, from among those undecided. Undecided participants might visit each preference group to ask its members about their candidate.

After 30 minutes, the electioneering is temporarily halted, and the supporters for each candidate are counted. At this point, the caucus officials determine which candidates are viable. Depending on the number of county delegates to be elected, the viability threshold is 15% of attendees. For a candidate to receive any delegates from a particular precinct, he or she must have the support of at least the percentage of participants required by the viability threshold. Once viability is determined, participants have roughly another 30 minutes to realign: the supporters of inviable candidates may find a viable candidate to support, join together with supporters of another inviable candidate to secure a delegate for one of the two, or abstain. This realignment is a crucial distinction of caucuses in that (unlike in a primary) a voter's second choice can help a candidate.

When the voting is closed, a final head count is conducted, and each precinct apportions delegates to the county convention. These numbers are reported to the state party, which counts the total number of delegates for each candidate and reports the results to the media. Most of the participants go home, leaving a few to finish the business of the caucus: each preference group elects its delegates, and then the groups reconvene to elect local party officers and discuss the platform. The delegates chosen by the precinct then go to a later caucus, the county convention, to choose delegates to the district convention and state convention. Most of the delegates to the Democratic National Convention are selected at the district convention, with the remaining ones selected at the state convention. Delegates to each level of convention are initially bound to support their chosen candidate but can later switch in a process very similar to what occurs at the precinct level; however, as major shifts in delegate support are rare, the media declares the candidate with the most delegates on the precinct caucus night the winner, and relatively little attention is paid to the later caucuses.....
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iowa_caucuses

So no secret ballot, and anyone that can't attend during the hour-long process can't vote.
