[Telefonica, the Spanish owner of O2 in the UK,
has confirmed that it is in talks to merge the business with the cable and broadband giant Virgin Media. A combination of the two would create a business with annual sales of more than £11bn and tens of millions of UK customers. O2, which sponsors the England rugby team and the music venues of that name, boasts more than 34 million connections to its network. Apart from the core O2 brand, it also partners with mobile virtual network operators Sky Mobile - which has common ownership with Sky News - giffgaff and Lyca Mobile, as well as owning half of Tesco Mobile.] https://news.sky.com/story/why-o2-an...ction-11983086 Last edited by arista; 21-05-2021 at 12:22 AM. |

I know who owns VirginMoney.
I also know all the buying and selling over recent years, plus the payments paid to the CEO amounting to over £12 million, the amount of redundancies due to the constant moving money around. The fact that Branson only owns 13% of it now is not the whole picture for us. |

Face to face we have been told you are not allowed to withdraw large amounts from saving accounts. Only money for essentials. So we transferred money to our current accounts and put two large cheques into one of our Halifax accounts. Mind you, even they asked us why we wanted to move that amount of money. [Virgin Media and O2's £31BILLION
merger is given green light by UK's competition watchdog after investigation CMA previously cleared it, saying it was 'unlikely' to lead to lower competition The Competition and Markets Authority provisionally cleared the merger in April It began its probe after firms asked to fast-track the process to phase two probe It was concerned that a tie-up could encourage Virgin and O2 to increase prices] https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...dog-probe.html |

The Green Light to go ahead. Spanish and USA Companies are happy to Join. [Mike Fries, chief executive of Virgin owner Liberty Global, and Jose Maria Alvarez-Pallete, boss of O2 owner Telefonica, said: 'This is a watershed moment in the history of telecommunications in the UK as we are now cleared to bring real choice where it hasn't existed before, while investing in fibre and 5G that the UK needs to thrive.'] Last edited by arista; 21-05-2021 at 12:35 AM. |

Branson has basically sold the virgin name to anyone who would buy it. Most of the virgin companies these days are owned by asset management companies. Indeed, most big brands are owned by asset management companies. One thing they have never cared about is the customer, that doesn't enter into their financial priorities
