I told you what my dad does when he doesn't like the commentators, he listens to commentary he likes. Many people enjoy the female commentary so if there are options surely that's the best so EVERYONE can enjoy the game??

There is no way of getting a radio commentary that is perfectly synchronised to the tv picture .. can you imagine if it’s a second behind the play or a second ahead ! I am autistic and things have to be perfect Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

My Dad rarely has a problem but he is quite deaf so probably misses half anyway but he can't stand certain commentators and pundits (he has a complete hatred of Robbie Davage so won't ever listen to him). He actually quite often watches one game on mute and listems to another game that isn't on TV too.

I actually like some of the women that have been drafted in as Pundits.
My main issue is why we're not seeing more men commentating on women's Football? Because it does stink of unfairness.

Quand il pleut, il pleut

…I can understand that thought process of ‘familiarity’ of watching man admired player through their career and then feeling that they have that experience to commentate on the sport…but that won’t always be the case that a great player would be a great commentator as they’re two different skill requirements…but also, there are many levels because football has always been one of those more male dominated sports …so the players that are ‘more familiar’ are going to be males more than females and it’s about bringing that change as well and as Annie said previously…opening up the game including commentating aspects to it, also…if we stay with a mindset of ‘what we’re familiar with’ in so many things then how does change and equality in opportunities ever come about…

…football over the last few years…/…a decade or so…has been a real focus from primary school level to be more all inclusive to girls and it seems all kinds of wrong to me to then give a message to a female child of…oh, but commentary opportunities for male games aren’t so open to females…that’s still a struggling thing to get acceptance and equality in…that’s all kinds of wrong in 2024, surely….

So, if one is drinking in the pub with friends, both male and female and the topic turned to the days games. Does a mans opinion of the game have greater weight than a womans? Do you check the peoples credentials on football before they comment?
Football commentary and punditry is just an extension of normal everyday discussion and debate. We all have our own opinions and are free to say someone else is talking crap, as i do often Why should women be excluded from contributing to that? Seriously, removing a womans right to comment or express an opinion is taking us back to the middle ages |

surely pundits dont know every male player or watch every match? and they should be doing their research anyway and watching videos of past matches so that doesnt wash with me

I would imagine the reason we don't see a lot of male pundits on the women's game will come down to money. The disparity in pay for female players, prize money etc etc will extend into the money offered to pundits I would imagine.
This is another reason why more money needs to be invested into the women's game

My only gripe (and it's not that deep for me, i can assure you) is that over the past 2 or 3 years women have been rushed into the men's game, commentary, punditry etc purely because they're "box tickers". It's nothing to do with their knowledge of the game, it's because broadcasters want to be seen as PC. Like i said in my previous post, it's quantity, not quality. But again, a lot of the men talk rubbish too so the problem with punditry (if you wanna call it that) is that both men, and women for the most part talk utter rubbish. There was a bit of a thing in Germany for the CL final last season, a woman was on Commentary, Inter were losing 1-0, and the woman said (when the camera panned to the Inter manager) something like "oh im sure he just wants the match to end now". I mean, that was up there with the silliest things ever said by a commentator, male or female. Twitter pointed out that "why on earth would a manager, when only losing 1-0, with 10 mins to go, in a Champions League Final, would want the match to end?!". She was criticised for the comment and it was branded "sexist". It wasn't sexist to criticise that comment, had a guy said it he would have got the same treatment. tl;dr - Nothing against women commentating and doing punditry on the men's game, but if they're crap, or say something stupid, they should be open to criticism just like the men are. And trust me, the men get lots of criticism, they always have.

People all get behind the women's national team when they're in tournaments, but when it comes to the women's domestic game, it doesn't get a strong or big enough following. People say "oh the pay is a joke between men and women", yet hardly any of the people complaining about it watch any of the women's domestic football. Never attend games. Never pump any money into any aspect of it. As far as percentage goes too, for example FIFA prizes, the women actually get more prize money than the men. They're allocated a bigger percentage.

Sorry, the women obviously don't get more money than the men literally, but the percentage they receive is bigger than what the men get. So my point is, if more people got behind the women's game, more money would roll in.
