Default Will Young to star in TV special

Ananova:

Will Young is to star in his own one-hour special for ITV 1.

Four of his fellow Pop Idol comtestants, including Gareth Gates and Darius Danesh, will be making an appearance.

Ant and Dec will introduce the show on February 23rd.

It will also feature a surprise performance by one of the early auditioners.

This is rumoured to be Caroline Buckley, who reduced the panel to sniggers with her rendition of YMCA.

ITV 2 are planning to screen an in-depth interview with Will on the same night.

Will releases his debut double A-side single two days later.

Thanks for that, Honey.

That's definitely one for the diary. You've probably guessed I'm a HUGE Will fan.

I hope it isn't Kate Thornton doing the inteview on ITV2, though - her 'exclusive' interview with Will after the Pop Idol final was abysmal to say the least. She spent more time talking to the judges and Gareth than she did to Will.

It'll be great to see the lovely Darius again too.

Yeah Kaz, even though I quite liked Kate Thornton generally on Pop Idol, her Will interview at the end was a bit of a waste of space wasn't it.

The show on the 23rd sounds really interesting, I'm looking forward to it.

I wonder whether Mssrs Adams and Clarke will settle down to watch it after a hard day of moving house. Sounds like the ideal thing to relax to cuddled up on a new sofa with a good bottle of wine.

So I am, LEE - panic over!

I can't help making comparisons between the end of Pop Idol and the end of BB2. Pop Idol are giving us one off TV specials and an interview with the winner, followed by a concert tour by all 10 finalists.

What did we get when BB2 finished? Nothing. Nil. Ziltch.

Endemol/Channel 4 should definitely take a leaf out of Pop Idol's books in relation to BB3 - but that's not a lot of consolation to us BB2 fanatics, is it.

Oh, what a bummer! I've just read in the Bizarre section of the Sun Online that it will be Kate Thornton who's interviewing Will on 23 February. Here's what it says:

WILL YOUNG is to star in a one-hour special on ITV1.

The Pop Idol winner will be joined by the four other finalists. Hosted by Ant and Dec, the show on February 23 will feature duets and group performances.

It’s followed by an “in-depth” interview with Kate Thornton on ITV2.

Let’s hope it’s slightly more illuminating than her last one.

Yet again I have to agree with Mr Mohan (I don't like doing it, but I agree totally with him!!). Her last interview was simply crap.

A tv show 3 or 4 weeks after the finale would have made me very happy. It wouldn't have to be anything in depth, just a few interviews about what everyone is doing, and some reflections on their experiences now they'd had a chance to speak to their friends and family and to witness the video evidence of their own highs and lows.

The eviction interview is great, but limited because it's so emotional and they do the intervew for the book before any real chance for reflection, so it's all out of date by the release. I'd like to see them all pick their favourite moments that feature them, and that don't feature them and if they are bold enough, the moment that embarasses them the most.

I wonder what sort of replacement we could have for the tour? They could feature in an exibit in the Tate Modern. They could sit around reading books, making cups of tea and holding hands behind one of those rope things. That would get the visitor numbers up!

Listen, Kaz, Lee, and all the other virtual day-trippers. There is only one place to watch the Will Young Special, and that is, of course, Chez Clarke/Adams.

Even though I suspect Pickfords might take the strain

(although please, let me visualise Paul take off his tee-shirt and wipe the sweat from his chest and forehead one more time.................OK!),

they are still going to be cream crackered, and the last thing on their minds will be rustling up Fish Pie or Macarena.

So, just before the programme starts, we arrive with the fish supper and carry-out, are welcomed in with open arms, (especially when we explain Lee is the famed celebrity interviewer) and we settle down on the IKEA sofa and the big square stripy cushions, switch on the TV and chill our boots to 'Sweetest Feeling' whilst ROB tries to hit her mouth with the chips instead of gaping in awe and wonder at the thing of beauty which is.....Paul Clarke.

Seriously though, imagine, the sound of Will Young singing, and, simultaneously, the sight of Paul putting mayonnaise on his chips......it just doesn't get any better than that!

That sounds like the perfect end to our outing, R.O.B.

I notice you've finally got your avatar to work - fan-bloody-tastic!

We both seem to have a fascination with Paul and beds, don't we? Wonder why?

Hmm, Paul Clarke day-napping, nice, eh? I'm glad you approve. Don't you wish you could just wake him up for a little afternoon delight?

The bed isn't strictly necessary, but is certainly one option!

Sleep, Mr Clarke............you will need all your strength on Saturday, although all resistance is futile!!!

Thought this show was tremendous and certainly confirmed for me what a great future Will should have. His duet with Hayley on 'Ain't no mountain high enough' was absolutely stonking!!

It was nice to see Zoe, Darius and Gareth again. I have to say though that listening to Gareth & Zoe confirmed my thoughts that their voices, although really sweet, are quite 'thin' and I think it's because they are both quite young. With some good vocal training, and a couple of more years under their belts, they are going to be absolutely tremendous. It was still good to hear them though and Gareth looked as lovely as always.

Fab show. Will - you are a star.

It was a great show last night, Will was as usual brilliant

He showed that he could sing any style of music he wanted, as his duet with Hayley was so upbeat and then he did the ballad duet with Gareth.

I'm glad Gareth didn't win because he only sang ballads, he needs more experience in the industry to be able to really belt songs out, whereas Will can do anything!

Darius was superb, he is going to be a real heartthrob with those beautiful eyes and swinging hips!!!!!!!!

The interview on ITV2 after the show had me laughing out loud. Will is so funny, he's got a brilliant character.

He is going to be such a huge star

Only one word to describe this programme:
FANTASTIC!

Will was brilliant and showed he can sing absolutely anything. The two duets he sang with Hayley and Gareth were poles apart in style, and yet he was outstanding at them both.

I thought Darius was fantastic too - he's really found his own natural style now and the hip swinging was fab!

The interview on ITV2 with Kate Thornton was - at last - excellent. Will came across as a thoroughly normal, totally likeable and amazingly talented young man, who is also a natural comedian.

William, my boy, you are a true superstar.

I don't think there is any doubt that Will will score a number one single this week.
As Kate Thornton Pointed out, one radio station (she didn't say which) played it every hour, because it is so popular. I really enjoyed the special last night too. It was well put together, rightly concentrating on Will as the winner but including most of the notable bits of pop Idol from the past weeks with some fanatastic numbers from Will and the other contestants. I particularly liked Gareth and Wills version of the Beatles hit...'The long and Winding Road' it was absolutely superb. Gareth and Rachel's (from S Club 7) duet was also really lovely. Hayley has such a good voice and the duet with Will was particularly outstanding. I also saw the ITV 2 programme and I agree with you Kaz Kate was alot better this time. Will comes across very well, and will certainly be around for a long time. I just hope he gets to record the songs he really has his heart set on doing in the future, he has a unique voice and derserves to put it to good use. Gareth will always remain my favourite and I just know good things are ahead for him too. Good Luck to all of them I hope all their dreams of pop stardom or whatever come true, they deserve that much for all the entertainment they have given us over the past few months.

I hope you all brought Wills single today, I did. I went into HMV - Tthe shelves looked pretty empty and in the queue behind me was three other people all with Will singles. I heard that he has got a number one slot already - just through pre-sales, not bad!!
