Default PEJ,'BB11 adopted different approach'

Big Brother's creative director says that the show has taken a "different approach" this year with punishments playing less of a part.

Speaking on the DS Forums, Phil Edgar Jones also emphasised that the programme makers didn't have agendas and maintained that the show was performing well.

"The fact is we decided to adopt a different approach to the show this year on many levels," explained Jones. "We also made a conscious decision not to waste time on punishments and instead concentrate on other things.

"We don't have favourites among the housemates - it genuinely does not matter to me who wins. The highlights show is edited and there's nothing we can do about that."

While dismissing the idea that the highlights were edited with an agenda in mind, Jones did concede that the aim was to create a "decent soap opera".

He continued: "The show is actually performing really well and many people in lots of other places are saying they are enjoying it."

It was announced recently that Jones would be leaving Endemol after the completion of Big Brother 11.

I wish he'd just take note that even soap operas don't have ****ing childish montages with gimmicky graphical effects/music.

Not too bothered with rules? isnt that like one of the most important part of the show. Instead of being more concerned about stupid things like getting a crappy 3 minute edit in of a task let us have some real entertainment with the housemates getting punished.

Bloody lying hypocritical tosser. Who is he kidding? He hasn't explained why JJ&J are rarely punished for their persistent rule breaks, and when they are, they are pathetic punishments, whereas people like Dave are immediately up for eviction. The guy is a complete loser, and a big reason why the show has gone down the drain. If channel 5 do bring it back next year, it better be a completely different format, because I, for one, was unaware we were supposed to be watching a soap opera - perhaps the viewers should have been told that before they started wasting their money on phone evictions, since clearly the producers have already ringfenced their winner(s).

BB have always bended the rules... at least since BB5. I remember Victor and Jason discussing nominations something like fifty times before they were dealt with. It also states in their rulebook "BB can change the rules at any time".

So yeah, punishments generally tend to be quite arbitrary and depend on where BB wants the story to go.

If BB11 was intended to be "different" this year, then the changes should apply to ALL the HMs not just the favoured (by the producers) few. If the format has been changed from a reality game show to a soap opera, then voting out by the viewers should have been binned altogether, and BB should just decide who goes each week, saving us all a lot of time and money. They should also have had the courtesy to let us, the viewers, in on the format change. Instead of being called Big Brother, they should have just renamed it Big Bluffer

Yeah, I gotta agree with you - PEJ's "creativity" has brought BB to a new low in producing a "soap opera" aimed squarely at pre-teen females .....
