It's really annoying when people act like 9/11 was some sort of natural disaster or accident or something. It wasn't. It was an act of war.
It was worse in the way that far more lives were lost. I'm not acting like 9/11 was some natural disaster, nobody in this thread is.

actually the op asked which had you glued to the TV more and which made you most emotional. Alot of people on here were to young for a start when 9/11 happened so the may chosen a different option for that reason.

It reminds me of that stupid story from the 90's of the little girl trapped down a well.

To compare it to 9/11 is ridiculous. 9/11 changed the entire world. How does the Chilean miners story change the world in any way? It doesn't.
Yes, I agree completely with that. I was pleased that the miners were freed but I really didn't care that much so as to watch every single one of them get rescued while events that were far more important and relevant were unfolding.

9/11 had the biggest effect on me, the others I really didn't care that much about. By "inauguration" do you mean Obama? If so, then I wasnt interested, the election itself interested me, but never bought into the Obama hype tbh

well maybe i'm confused about what we are actually debating here.... are we meant to be debating what was the biggest news event? or are we meant to be debating what got the most news coverage in actual hours?? i'm confused.

9/11 and Diana were JFK-esque, in that I remember where I was at the time of hearing.

I saw 9/11 on a little pocket TV in my tiny squalid apartment which was upside down because I was completely renovating it. Ill never forget that.

Well, the question the OP asked was, out of these stories that got 24hour news coverage which one had you glued to the TV most? and which one made you most emotional?. I didn't pick it up as which one was worst or most evil as obviously the four of them are completely different types of stories so aren't comparable in that sense.

i thought we were debating which was the most IMPORTANT to us as individuals. Which event had the most lasting impact. that was the assumption i made about the thread.

No, perhaps you should read the question again. The OP is asking which event had you glued to the TV the most. Nobody compared the Chilean Mining accident to 9/11, the question is what had you glued to the TV the most. As I was only 10 when 9/11 happened, I wasn't sat in front of the TV watching every minute of it, yes it was catastrophic, there's no denying that, but I watched more of the Chilean Miners coverage, therefore the one which had me glued to the TV the most was that one.

If the OP had asked what was the most devastating, the most upsetting, the most horrific, then yes, 9/11 would be answer, but that wasn't the question.

My bad. I assumed that "the event that had you most GLUED to the tv" would be the same as the most most important event.

Obviously we have different priorities when we watch TV...

I guess you prefer entertainment. I guess I take things more seriously...

Different strokes for different folks. my bad.

oh lostalex shut up

OT: I didn't really care about the trapped miners. 9/11 was obviously the most captivating. However it didn't move me to tears (though documentaries and films since, have) - MJ's news did.

When 9/11 happend I was too young and immature to understand what was going on so I wanted to watch 9-ball pool on Sky Sports instead.

Too young to be emotionally involved in 9/11
I don't care for the death of a paedophile no matter how good his music is (controversial but goes around and round in circles, everyone has an opinion)
Barack Obama isn't fully black and that didn't bother me at all plus I'm not black so didn't feel empowered or anything
The Chilean miners were away for 69 days, its not that long and they were made comfortable. If they were trapped under rubble it would be a different story

So in conclusion, none.

I did get upset at Vera dying in Corrie though nice to know my mental state has good priorities I suppose

I suggest people calm down and keep this thread on topic without resorting to digging at each other.

If people have issues, then please use PM, not a thread. Other people are trying to discuss a topic here!
