The Indian cricket board (BCCI) has invited bids for the upcoming series of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on various platforms.

Under this invitation to tender, broadcasters, Internet operators and mobile network operators are invited to bid to secure certain media rights to broadcast IPL matches for the four seasons from 2011 to 2014 inclusive.

The rights are for worldwide television excluding India, Australia, South Africa, the Middle East, Singapore, Hong Kong and the Caribbean, worldwide radio apart from the Middle East, worldwide Internet with a five minute delay in India, Worldwide mobile with a five minute delay in India.

The bidding document is available until 15th March and submissions have to be made by 20th March in Chennai.

In the UK, Sky Sports, ZEE Network and last year's rights holder ITV are expected to compete for the rights in this territory. Meanwhile, YouTube will once again stream each game live on its portal. YouTube and the BCCI had agreed the deal last year for a period of two years.

ITV strikes new IPL deal
29 March, 2011 | By Jake Kanter

ITV has struck a new four year rights deal to broadcast the Indian Premier League cricket competition.

The agreement with Nimbus Communications will see live coverage of the IPL’s fourth season air on ITV4 and itv.com from 8 April to 28 May.

It will be produced by ITV Sport with a presenting team due to be announced shortly.

Coverage of last year’s IPL final netted last year’s Broadcast award for best sports programme.

Cricket made its debut on ITV4 last year with live coverage of the third season of IPL and was later followed by highlights of England’s 2010-11 Ashes, Twenty20 and one day international series in Australia.

“ITV4 has a fast growing reputation for broadcasting sport,” said Niall Sloane, ITV’s controller of sport.
