Default will Afghan forces be ready to take over?

When the British come home in 2015?

I've just finished watching some operational footage and some of the decisions they were making were very rash and dangerous. Despite concerns from ISAF who can ultimately only advise

Your reasonings?

I've catched up on RK: OTFL and the decision to not send both units in Sync, as advised by ISAF, was barbaric. As was seen when they came under attack and gave the taliban the upper hand.

The lack of professionalism and accountability of the nation’s police and Army has raised serious concerns. The forces have been involved with abuses of civilians such as torture, killings and sexual abuse of children. At least 10% of the 2,777 Afghan civilians who died as a result of the conflict in 2010 were killed by their own security forces.

There are 40,000 police in the country who have had no training at all - Nato has prioritised “quantity over quality”. The training of new police officers has shrunk from eight to six weeks, and is focused on firearms training, rather than civilian policing and law.

Members of the Afghan Local Police, the scheme set up to support local militia groups to fight insurgency, have been involved in kidnapping, beatings and other criminal acts.

Coalition forces are not doing enough to prevent the abuses and they have been too slow to address the issues.

Afghanistan will continue to be run by gangsters and thugs.

Of course they won't be ready, they're a shambles. But that's their problem not ours. We as a country have done done more than our bit out there and it's time to bring our troops home, we've lost enough of them already. If the Afghan army isn't ready, let the Afghans take the responsibility for the drug-ridden terrorist-haven they call a country.

Afghanistan has been a sheet-hole of chaos for hundreds of years. It's not our job to fix it, it's just our job to try and kill anyone who is a threat to us.

No, and I don't think the last 10 years has done anything to help either. They'll leave it in the state they arrived in. Its been a waste of time and I'm pretty certain it was just a PR stunt for public confidence

I'm not against the war, i'm just saying it's not our job to care about how their country is, we should be focused on killing terrorists, not worrying about trying to fix all of afghanistan's problems.

Combatting terrorism or rather the insurgents in that area goes hand in hand with fixing problems within the countries infrastructure.

If you just go stomping in and starting killing the odd local, the rest of them get a tad upset. Especially when you shoot achmeds uncle seven times removed, they take it quite personal.

So we dig a few wells and build a few schools, plant a few trees and show them we really do care.

That way when we go for tea and tommy terrorist comes back in the village, Tommy tries to close the school or pees in the well. They either tie him up and hand him over or they come running and tell us. Everyone is happy, the locals get to keep their shiny new school, we get someone to play with and tommy gets a good shoeing for the cause he believes in.

Mind you if he hasnt done anything really bad, we then give him a shiny new uniform and a lovely new gun from mattel and sign him into the newly reformed Afghan Army.

As for the question will they be ready to take over, not a hope in hell. As soon as coalition forces pull out of the country, old rivalries and feuds will once again break out, insurgency and terrorist activity will increase and lots of uniforms will be vacated and the wearers will sod off home.
