Default Mexican woman 'expecting nine babies' is a hoax...

A woman who claimed to be pregnant with nine children was lying, it has been discovered.

Reports emerged on Thursday (April 26) that 32-year-old Karla Perez from Mexico was expecting nonuplets.

Perez provided welfare officials with apparent evidence of the multiple pregnancy, including an ultrasound video, a spokesman for the health ministry of Coahuila state told Reuters.

After the news was picked up by Mexico's main broadcaster Televisa and top daily newspapers, local health authorities offered help to the woman from Villa De Arteaga.

Claims that she had conceived the babies following fertility treatment turned out to be a hoax.

Tests carried out by doctors on Friday (April 27) revealed that she was not even pregnant. It remains unknown why the mum of three made up the claims.
