Thought I'd post this in here, since, even though I've said often before that I won't be able to help too much with tasks, I've now got to use mobile broadband here, whereas at my old house I was using next door's wifi.

We're getting Virgin installed on Thursday though and it's fibre-optic and shiz so from then (if I last 'til then) I'll be all active as ****

but yeah if anything I'll be on more because we haven't got the TV channels or stuff yet. I'll take photos once the house isn't a mess. I HAVE HOT WATER AGAIN <3 (yeah... the old house... we went without it for 4 years...)

haven't got it yet, might turn out to be balls

and yeah the hot water thing was terrible... to make it worse, no central heating either I had to run the shower head in the bath if I wanted a bath

But yeah I mentioned the whole backstory in passing in the Salon/a previous incarnation of it: Our old house, my mum's lived in it for 50 years. I've therefore lived in it my whole life. We rented it from our uncle (her brother) who lives up-country (Surrey) and it was generally assumed we'd get it inherited if anything happened to him (he has kids but...it's our family home )

Anyway he became ill and was forced out of work, so decides to go all I WANT MOAR RENTS on our asses despite the facts that:
- he has never renovated (see: lack of hot water)
- there were literally holes in walls, from shoddy plastering jobs
- there was mould in virtually every room in the house
- and the last time he decorated, I was in the womb.

so like, naturally my mum told him to jog on, and didn't pay the extra. Plus, she went back to work recently (she's a widow, and for the past 10 years or so she'd received income support whilst my dad worked), so the whole housing benefit shabang stopped, so it was kind-of neither family-person's fault, really. But she's a single parent now, turned 60 this year, is diabetic and has no savings, so this whole "grrr rent" thing was a bit uncalled for.

Uncalled for was the lightest way to put things when he suddenly served us with (an illegal) eviction notice. He cited all of the house's problems down to damage by us children (I don't know about you but the whole sledgehammer-to-the-walls thing was very un-1990s, and I'm not even sure how I can cause mould personally). He then proceeded with legal eviction shiz since our solicitors were basically like "mate, **** off". And then a surveyor came around and basically deemed our house to be uninhabitable, so we were forced by the council to move.

Moving has been a blessing though, since, even though we've downsized (from a 4-bedroom to a 3-bedroom) there's all the benefits like:
- clean, undamaged house
- hot water/heating
- an ACTUAL GARDEN (sob/)

And even though it's pretty sad to leave the place you've lived your whole life I guess moving to university sort-of numbed that blow, so yeah. I'll stop unloading my life story now (oh and safe to say: I don't consider him an uncle )

That was an interesting read actually. Well not interesting like "yay Shaun's gone through bad stuff" but I just found that interesting to know why It's a more interesting moving story than "we decided we needed a change".

All I can say after reading that is no wonder you are relieved and happy with your new home, although it is sad leaving the place you have fond memories in etc.
