Default ways to improve the nhs

1) write a constitution stating exactly what is expected of every staff member, with an overall mission statement/vision, stating too top priorities such as getting the hospitals cleaner (swedish hospitals get 60 times fewer cases of mrsa than we do)
2) prioritise everyone gets their scans quicker. whether its for blood clots, kidney stones, mri scans, put more money into keeping these scanners open way way way more hours. this will cost billions. But it will save billions in bed blocking , endless unnecessary medications, anti biotics, painkillers and staffing hours, it will also save lives and reduce months of unnecessary agony for patients.
3) listen to patient feedback. remember the patient is the most important person
4) when the nhs is to invest in equipment ensure the suppliers are likely to be around for the next few years, as parts will be needed. with no parts then you have major problems, broken machinery , broken lifts, lost hours, cancelled operations
5) get tougher with failing staff. politicians must stop kissing the backsides of all nhs staff. some are legends, but some are horrible sly, dishonest workshy people, who burden the other staff members and damage patient care
6) force the chief executives to meet more patients and staff members
7) review the offer of plastic surgery for people who have not suffered accidents. such a demand should be way behind life saving, health enhancing operations
8) allow nhs trusts to use private care insurance to offset their caring costs for people at home. this will save billions as people live longer at home with carers
all of these factors in the long run should save money, keep cleaner hospitals, save lives

I honestly think the NHS is doing quite well as it is. Me and my family have had many dealings with hospitals over the years and I have no complaints at all. Maybe I just live in a 'good' area for stuff like this, but whenever family have needed scans and such they have come through very quickly.

That said I absolutely disagree with people getting their stomachs stapled, and boob jobs on the NHS. Especially boob jobs. Ops for cosmetic purposes should be private, not NHS funded.

thats good to hear, the standards, the budgets and waiting times vary massively from region to region, even from hospital to hospital. many have been downgraded to make way for super hospitals. the worry is if youre a long way from a super hospital

Stop getting at the smokers, etc, and sort out the alcholism in this country,it is responsible for so much mayhem in our hospitals, homes and on our streets,The NHS could be so much more able to deal with emergencies etc,if they didn't have to see to these people especially at weekends.

great point this begins with forcing the supermarkets to charge more , (the scots are brining in a minimum alcohol price)
when alcoholics get drunk at home theyre in far more danger than down the pub, down the pub , bar staff and fellow drinkers can keep an eye on you. they cant home home.

Excellent point, I have family who work in the NHS and they all say, they dread the alcohol side of problems particularly in A&E.
It is not just the abuse and threats the staff get from those under its influence but alo the chaos and mess that has to be cleared up after them.

i do think staff need to speak to patients more too. they talk enough amongst themselves and not enough directly to patients imo

I know it's not strictly NHS but more hospitals.... stop spending a large chunk of the hospital budget on 'art' under the pretense that it 'helps people with their recovery'..one near here spent millions on artwork and sculptures because they thought it would be nice to look at

What's really needed sorting in the NHS rather than all these new confusing and costly reforms that have been done is to have the courage to get at the Trust Managers and sort all that waste out.
Take away some of the people that are assigned to the Trust Managers, who walk around their little corner with clipboards in hand, contributing little and in most cases nothing to hands on Patient care.
Who cannot even direct you to where you need to be because they haven't a clue where some wards are.

A lot does need to be sorted in the NHS but it really is time the people who actually work in the NHS are listened to and have a much greater say in what goes on.
That is what is claimed by the Govt. in these reforms as to the aim of the reforms but the vast majority of people working in the NHS will say very firmly it will have the total opposite effect and affect greatly patient care overall in the next few years.

no youre missing the point, its too expensive in pubs and too cheap down the supermarket

pubs are tied houses and often forced to buy their beer at twice as much as the supermarkets, its a massive worldwide con

so pubs have to charge Ł3.50/Ł4 a pint to make money
supermarkets can charge Ł1 a pint and make money

in the end everyone buys cheap booze in tescos and gets hammered alone at home with no supervision and no social interaction, its sad and dangerous

the only person who wins is the supermarket and the minister they greased up to get such favourable laws

Oh yeah I definitely agree pubs are far too expensive these days and it's killing a lot of them, our supermarket prices are also higher than most countries in Europe as well though

I agree totally, definitely.
Patients haven't been listened to for ages by either party when in Govt.

I also do not believe all nurses are the warm caring angels of mercy as portrayed by the media and politicians. Ive met plenty who plain ignore patients. these lousy nurses need to be weeded out too
