A New York City policeman has been arrested after allegedly planning to kidnap, cook and eat 100 women.

Gilberto Valle III - from Queens, New York - reportedly used law enforcement databases to access unauthorised data and spy on potential victims.

ABC News reports that Valle has been arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit kidknapping, along with an unamed co-conspirator, after the pair reportedly exchanged online messages about "kidnapping, cooking and eating the body parts" of one potential victim.

In one of these exchanges, Valle is quoted discussing with the co-conspirator how he would cook one of their victims, before allegedly adding: "I love that she is asleep right now not have (sic) the slightest clue of what we have planned. Her days are numbered... She does look tasty, doesn't she?"

The two men were arrested following a joint NYPD and FBI investigation.

FBI Acting Assistant Director Mary E. Galligan said: "The allegations in the complaint really need no description from us. They speak for themselves. It would be an understatement merely to say Valle's own words and actions were shocking."

Preet Bhara, US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, added: "Gilberto Valle's alleged plans to kidnap women so that they could be raped, tortured, killed, cooked and cannibalized shock the conscience.

"This case is all the more disturbing when you consider Valle's position as a New York City police officer and his sworn duty to serve and protect."
