Default A Canadian's Point Of View

Yes, Heidi and Spencer make good viewing.

As an adult I think we all understand the need for people like this on the show.

What worries me if they win is the negative example it sets for the young Impressionable British viewers.

That being a villan is rewarded. Nasty, foul mouthed, offensive and negative is admired and rewarded by winning this show, will only encourage like minded behaviour in the British youth.

Like I said, as an adult I get the need for them being there, and enjoy it on some level, but aren't we worried about the example it sets for those who don't know the difference?

Just my two cents.

And although I'm Canadian, I was raised by two loving parents from Manchester.

I would imagine nobody looks towards Big Brother winners for inspiration (beyond your typical minority-member win like Nadia, Luke A and Pete)

But Denise is already a CBB champion

Like Shaun says I'm not sure the youth of today are looking at the CBB winner as any kind of role model.

Exactly Cherie.

From a South Africans view point BB is car crash telly and I highly doubt anyone is watching it seeking some sort of moral compass .

I hope you're right, but it's a sad fact that reality stars in North America are looked upon as role models. Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashians both released sex tapes and were rewarded with their own shows plus millions of dollars in endorsements.

It's naive to believe in the UK it's any different.

I might add I don't think any of the others are that brilliant as role models either.

Rylan is a cartoon character.
Claire is desperate.
Razor is trying way too hard.
Ryan is just weird.

I think I liked Gillian the best.

Agree with you on that one,not sure I would want my kids to be looking at any of them as potential role models.

Personally I feel children are impressionable, but also mercurial. Many of them will find lots of role models throughout their lives, as we all should.

I am worried for the tv producers and executives who smell blood in the water. Public emotional abuse and turmoil can create attention and lots of callers. Reality tv is the modern day gladiator's arena. I don't watch the American reality contest shows for a reason and I have felt the producers of bbuk pushing for a more ruthless contest for the past few years.
So sad,

Are they? I can't really remember either of them swearing, Rylan and Razor on the other hand, did all the swearing and shouting and that is being offensive and nasty, staying calm and not raising your voice isn't.

Unfortunately many youngsters do look at reality TV 'stars' as role models... You only have to see all the chavvy young lads round here who seem to have morphed into Joey Essex...

Oh yes. Joey Essex who goes on Celeb Juice just to show how thick he is, and who was that Kirk Norwood from Towie who couldn't point out Australia on a map.

I guess CBB has never been a breeding ground for the virtuous.

The choices are
Villain type Americans
Pretends to be stupid Essex boy
Happy with obesity and almost promotes it
Aggressive thug trying to alter his image
Or miserable psycho fanboy

Lets show impressionable children looking up to the show, that if you're gonna grow up to be a bad role-model, at least be an entertaining one.

I think any grown man or woman taking inspiration from Big Brother is beyond the pale anyway. On the topic of younger people however I really think it takes an imaginative, driven child who wants to help themselves, a parent or parents willing to instill these values or both in order to break the suffocating bubble of thick culture that permeates every aspect of the media. I know that's a very general, extreme rant opening salvo in reply to a quite specific topic matter but it's something that's been playing over in my mind constantly for quite awhile.

We are raising a defunct generation that appear deceptively smart. Tech savvy, fingers on the pulse of a defunct culture, good at making free association between varying forms of bullshit. On the flip side idealism is dead, nobody is particularly well read, 'alternative' is just something that's been repackaged and sold to the mainstream, we use music rather than submit to it [The Killers and Kings Of Leon are the two biggest rock bands in the world. People skip to certain songs on their albums to do lovely little things like jog or pre drink before heading out. It's meaningless. And these are the credible ones.] ...

... sorry. Continue on, lads. Vote 4 Razor.

It still raises an interesting point and provokes discussion. Your post accomplishes neither.
