..so very tragic, I can't imagine how her family must be feeling....
A six-year-old British girl has drowned in a pool while on a family holiday at an Egyptian resort on the Red Sea. The youngster died in one of the pools of a waterpark at the Coral Sea Waterworld hotel in Sharm el Sheikh on Friday. The family were travelling with First Choice which issued a statement promising a "full and thorough investigation". The tour operator said: "First Choice can sadly confirm that a child has died while staying at the Coral Sea Waterworld hotel in Egypt. "The incident occurred in a pool in the hotel's waterpark. "Our thoughts and condolences are with the family at this extremely difficult time. "The British Consulate were immediately informed and they are now working with our dedicated resort team in Egypt, to offer every assistance possible to the family in resort. "In partnership with the hotelier, our resort team are working to understand how the incident occurred, and we will be carrying out a full and thorough investigation. "At this time our priority is to provide support to the family." The hotel described the girl's death as a "tragic accident" in a message on its Facebook page. It said: "We can sadly report that today a young child died at the coral sea water world. The incident occurred in one of the pools in the water park. It is believed to be a tragic accident." The Foreign Office confirmed the death and said it was "providing consular assistance to the family at this difficult time". Sharm el Sheikh is a popular holiday destination overlooking the Red Sea |

I hate reading articles like this. I'm gonna be the most paranoid parent in the world when I do have kids. I need to stop reading things like this.

Omg, I'm with Alex on this one.. Reading stuff like this makes me paranoid too. I'm probably already too protective of my kids when abroad but this shows it's worth being careful.
We saved a wee girl last year.. She was in deep water on her own and had tried to get out of her rubber ring and it had tipped her upside down and couldn't get upright again. Dave got her out the pool and eventually her parents came running over... Christ knows where they were but surely a non swimmer in deep water should be supervised at all times

Awful, I am a bit paranoid too never took my eyes from the kids in the sea or pool on holiday. It has always surprised me the association with alcohol and pools at resorts, we wouldn't dream of drinking while on a trip to the swimming baths at home...
I am not suggesting that this was a factor here.

My dad nearly died on holiday once... He is not a strong swimmer and there was a sudden drop in the pool which took him by surprise. My mum jumped in to help him and he nearly drowned her by pushing on her to try and keep his head above water. They were both ok thankfully but my dad made sure both my brother and I took swimming lessons and try never took their eyes off us. Although we only went abroad once as kids so it didn't matter that much. It was the most scared I can remember being as a kid an just screamed at te side if the pool.
