PRESS RELEASE
Big Brother Housemates Get Into Euro 2004 Mood As They Begin Their Weekly Task The Big Brother housemates have been set a football-themed weekly task today, Sunday 13 June. At 2pm today (Sunday) Stuart read out the instructions below: “Your second weekly task has a football theme. Each housemate must represent a European football team. You must choose which country you wish to represent from the list provided. Each housemate must create an original mascot costume to wear to represent the country of their choice. All costumes must consist of the following items: a mascot head, the chosen country’s flag worn as a cape, a t-shirt, a pair of shorts or a skirt.” “Once the costumes are complete the housemates must each devise a ten-second mascot dance. Big Brother will require all housemates to perform their mascot dances in full costume later today. “ On hearing details of the task Marco exclaimed “How much fun, that is wicked…what a great task.” Immediately the housemates claimed their teams. Ahmed and Stuart both wanted to represent England. Stuart however won the toss, so Ahmed had to settle for representing Italy. The other housemates will represent the following teams; Victor – France Nadia – Portugal Vanessa – Sweden Marco – Spain Stuart - UK Shell - Holland Jason - Germany Daniel - Greece Ahmed - Italy The housemates will be given more instructions for tonight’s Big Brother Football Opening Ceremony later today. The task will finish on Wednesday. If housemates complete the task successfully they will be rewarded with a Big Brother privilege pass. This pass will be redeemable against a choice of rewards. More details of the first part of the task are as follows: OPENING CEREMONY (Sunday) Each country will be announced in alphabetical order. When each country is announced, the ceremonial music will sound and the housemate representing that country, dressed as their team’s mascot, must go to the garden, bow, announce their country and make their debut performance of their mascot’s victory dance. The dance must last no longer than 10 seconds. After the opening ceremony, the housemates will be treated to a European buffet. Rules of the Task · Housemates must each choose one country form the following list: England, France, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Sweden, Germany, Holland. · The storeroom is stacked with props for each housemate to build their country’s mascot. Props will include a mascot head, baggy football shorts, long football socks, plain t-shirt, national flag and a sash. · They will be given sewing kits, beads, felt, ribbons and all manner of materials to decorate their outfits. · Housemates must not use items from their own wardrobe as part of their costume (apart from underwear and shoes). · If the housemates arrive late or perform the task incorrectly three or more times then they will fail the task. |

I might go over to my gym to watch it later cos they're laying on free food in the bar for the match and it should be a good atmosphere as well.

And it seems that as a reward they get food... any bets that it contains the cake that Emma and Michelle have been working on? A special cake, full of chilli, chilli seeds and red hot chilli powder...

Standing On Ceremony
Day 17, 22:30 Sunday 13 June Watch this clip The housemates kicked off the football-themed task sporting self-made national costumes and performing dances for the "opening ceremony". Gripping Big Brother's instructions Nadia gathered the gang in the living room, telling them that they would shortly have to congregate in the garden. Each housemate would have to perform their mascot dance for 10 seconds when the country they were representing was announced. They would also be provided with a European buffet on completion of the task. Shrieking as Nadia finished reading the commands, the housemates rushed to the bedroom to throw on their costumes. Ahmed seemed more reticent however, intently studying the information as if trying to commit it to memory. The other housemates twittered animatedly as they got ready. Marco was worried that his rabbit headgear would come adrift, grumbling, "How insecure does this thing feel?" National pride? "I can't believe we've got a buffet," said a delighted Stuart - several times. The Leeds University student took one last opportunity to practise his dance in the bedroom as others bustled around the room preparing for the task. Ahmed retired to his bed in quiet contemplation once he was in costume. Finally summoned to the garden decking area the housemates' commenced the ceremony, largely greeted with supporting yelps and claps. Representing England, Stuart was first up and performed his dance to whoops, shrieks and an awestruck, "That was amazing," from Vanessa. Not all efforts were so favourably received with Emma booing Victor's dance from her vantage point in the Bedsit. Symbolising France the Londoner concluded, "Voulez vous couches avec moi?" but this did not receive any 'yes's' from the ladies in the group. But a chicken-headed Shell's inspired use of maracas in her routine and Marco's limb-wafting dance were both crowd pleasers. We're football crazy, we're football mad. I know BB can change the rules, but allowing them to watch the footie again. Poor old Dean and Bubble would have given anything to watch a match and were refused because they had to have no contact with the outside world. Still BB reserves the right to change its mind.

She Shoots, She Scores!
Day 18, 14:45 Monday 14 June This week's task continued today with the arrival of a laminate explaining the next stage of the event. Yesterday, the housemates prepared their outfits and dances, then performed in an Opening Ceremony in which each housemate represented a different participating European country. And this morning they were told that they will receive a signal, at random, which will specify two countries. The housemates representing those countries will need to get into their self-designed costumes and don their mascot hats within 2 minutes and 45 seconds. The duo, all kitted up, then have to stand in opposite ends of the garden's recently painted football pitch, and listen to a piece of commentary. One team will score a goal, at which point the housemate whose team hits the back of the net will have to perform his or her ten second victory dance. Nadia celebrates with her victory dance No sooner had the housemates digested the rules than the words "France and Portugal" were boomed into the House by Big Brother. Victor and Nadia took it as read that they should get dressed and rush to the miniature football pitch in the garden. Once there, they followed Big Brother instructions - to stare at one another while match commentary was played into the House, and then for the match winner (in this case Portugal / Nadia) to perform ten seconds worth of the victory dance. The duo successfully completed the task in the allotted time. |
