I find it very sad that there are people, like you, who don't know their rights as citizens of Great Britain. My advice to you as you advance in age is to become familiar with your rights lest you or your family find yourself in an unhappy situation similar to the Kings.

We only have to look back to the legacy of the disgraced and struck off the GMC register -Professor Sir Roy Meadows and his very disgraceful criminal behaviour and to the UK's own homegrown notorious as the "worlds most prolific serial killer" the Late Dr. Harold Shipman to know that we as patients need to ask for second opinions and not to treat doctors like Demi-gods.

Knowing your rights might not save you from bad doctors and bad medical decisions but it will mean you know where and when to complain.

I'm off to write to the GMC about the doctors mentioned by Mr. King. I know that anyone can complain to the GMC about any doctor if they believe they have done something to damage a patient, behaved disgracefully or brought the medical profession into disrepute.

BTW, the Kings are just well informed people interested in their child's health - they don't need a medical degree for that.

'Ashya King, the five-year-old boy taken from the UK by his parents to seek treatment abroad for a brain tumour, is likely to be reunited with his mother and father after the Crown Prosecution Service bowed to mounting political pressure and said it would withdraw an arrest warrant which has resulted in the parents being held in a Spanish jail pending possible extradition.

With David Cameron's spokesman joining Nick Clegg and others in pushing for the parents to be able to join their son, who is receiving treatment alone at a children's hospital in Málaga, in the south of Spain, lawyers for the CPS told a high court hearing they wanted to rescind the European warrant for Brett and Naghmeh King'

The saddest part of this story is that so many people believed the NHS, the doctors, PCT were all doing the right thing, when in fact the opposite is true.

I keep asking myself if ordinary people can make a decision about what's right and wrong why can't these supposed educated people with big salaries not be able to process thoughts the same way? Well, the sad truth is that I think that they can but, imo, some positions of trust within the NHS have descended into positions of control and we cannot always trust them. We have all read the news paper reports where negligence and bad practice kills thousands of ordinary people who trusted the NHS would look after them. They died quietly in large numbers and we only heard about it later, that should scare all of us.

We see what power does on a smaller scale in the Big Brother House, and how fast the power corrupts the nicest people. The NHS is a far larger more powerful organisation with many individuals on power trips.

TRUE

heres an uncomfortable truth, the bigger more bloated the civil service / government gets, the most cover ups and inefficiency. the more and more excess laws are passed the more the nation is corrupted. the more certain powerful people pay lawyers to hide behind laws and buy their silence

simple laws work better, smaller government more accountable works better too

these idiots work for US , we pay their wages with our taxes, its time we rammed that message home to these uesless cops, useless civil servants, useless social workers and useless nhs staff , trust board members and corrupt committees

Yey!!!

The parents of five-year-old Ashya King, who were briefly jailed after taking him from a British hospital and fleeing abroad to seek treatment, have said he is now cancer-free.

Brett and Naghmeh King, who prompted an international police hunt in August when they took Ashya from a Southampton hospital against doctors’ wishes, said their son has made a “miracle” recovery from brain cancer.

The couple, from Southsea, Hants, were found in Spain, where they have a holiday home, and detained for three nights before a high court judge in London granted permission for them to seek proton beam therapy at a centre in Prague in the Czech Republic.

They had feared that conventional radiotherapy, advocated by Ashya’s British doctors to treat his medulloblastoma following surgery, would “kill him or turn him into a vegetable”.

On Monday they said they were absolutely delighted that a recent scan showed no sign of the tumour.

It was commented on that a very sick little boy didn't look particularly happy.

That's how I saw it, I don't care if you don't.
