Default Theatre Chat

I love the theatre me, but since there's no section for it (I asked but I don't think it's gonna happen ) Here's a thread for it instead!

Is anyone else a fan? Maybe we can start things off with this...

First show you saw:
Favourite show you've seen:
Last show you saw:

Mine:

First show you saw: "Chicago" - Broadway, New York (2000). It was incredible, I still remember it vividly and how intense it felt. It was so much more involving than the cinema and I'd never experienced anything like it and totally fell in love with the theatre!
Favourite show you've seen: "The Book of Mormon" - West End, London (2014). I need a whole thread to talk about this lol! Just amazing, everything... the songs, the characters, the humour, the story. I've never laughed so much and so hard at anything in my whole life!
Last show you saw: "The Play That Goes Wrong" - West End, London (2015) A truly bizarre comedy play. I loved it. It's actually quite hard to describe, because basically it's just a play where loads of stuff goes wrong, which sounds kind of lame haha, but the way it's produced is actually pretty ingenious, and I'd recommend it to anyone. It's very, very funny!

Also, this is happening at the moment...

Personally I think they need to stop having 'big names' just for the sake of it. It will have been clear during rehearsals that he wasn't doing a good job and so keeping him in the role will have obviously just been for the sake of it and making more money from the audience, rather than caring about putting on a good show for them.

***

And if anyone's seen The Commitments, I'd be really interested to know what you think. It's on tour now and I've heard mixed things, I'm not sure if it's something I'd enjoy.

***

Kind of hoping this takes off a bit because I really think a proper section for theatre related chat would be great. It's a huge industry with so much to talk about, and since we have sub forums for individual TV shows then maybe this could also have it's place

I went to see The Tempest with school in 2007 at the Novello Theatre in London and Patrick Stewart was in it which was pretty cool, apart from that i've never had much interest in it.

I went to see Wicked at Victoria too last year, and yeah it was brilliant! Especially the levitation bit.

If you get the chance to see Chicago then do it definitely. Visually it's amazing. The film they made did a really good job of showcasing the stage production, with their cutscenes, but having it right there infront of you is something else.

I'm a huge Michael Jackson fan but I haven't seen Thriller yet. Everyone says it's great but I think what's putting me off is that I can't imagine the songs being done justice, not having him sing or perform them. I really should see it though
