Doing battle for Britain in Europe. Very impressed by our current head of government. Last edited by UserSince2005; 19-02-2016 at 07:27 PM. |

He was the best on offer at the time of the election.
But nowhere near the same level as Sir Winston. |

I think he'll be considered one of the worst PMs ever by the time he's finished his term, hopefully the next government will be able to salvage something from the wreckage when it's all said and done.

No, not at all, Churchill was a truly great leader and would not have set out on the policies this man has permitted in his govt.
However, as to the EU, I will give David Cameron credit for his efforts here and it is clear,he is asking for a lot more to bring home to the UK than many will give him credit for, hence the delays from the EU countries to agree. This however is possibly a fight for his own status too,as he knows if he recommends staying in the EU and then the UK votes to leave the EU in the referendum, that his position could be so unstable he may have to go far sooner than he wanted to as PM and leader of his Party. The stakes are high for him personally as well as for the UK but for me he is doing great stuff out there and I hope he is rewarded with some deal from the EU too. He has my total support for this issue if he recommends staying in and I also think he is fighting so hard because he has looked at and analysed life outside the EU, and does not like the prospect really. Not a Churchill or even a Thatcher by any means but on this EU issue,he has shown me he is a better leader than I gave him credit for before. Last edited by joeysteele; 19-02-2016 at 04:28 PM. |

Tell you a true story. A friend of mine ran the Accounts Department at one of the councils in Essex. She regularly went to the Treasury to help with the Budget.
She asked the officials at the Treasury what they thought of Cameron. She got the following reply:- Blair was respected by the civil service. He knew what he wanted and how to get it. He knew when and to whom to delegate. Brown was a control freak and had to make every decision possible. From closing departments to signing off a Ł20 expense claim. He had to go through the minutae of every policy decision. So much so that he could make a decision. Cameron likes being PM but never does much work. He does not bother making trying to make allies whether in his own party or in Europe. Ministers are left to their own devices so strong ministers like Gove can do what they want otherwise policy is dictated by civil servants inside that department. |

King Prawn, I had a good laugh at that.
I've got a friend who worked for Harriet Harman and claims she doesn't do much other than lord it over people and throw lots of strops. She claims Corbyn is a difficult to understand mutterer and totally bonkers.

Also just a small point David Cameron is not the Head of Parliament,he is the head of the Government but he has to abide by the rules and regulations of Parliament just as any other MP has to .

Read a great article in the soon to be extinct Indy yesterday arguing how Cameron is probably the most Euro-savvy PM we've ever had. What other British leader has toured every corner of Europe and shown such an appreciation for all their different cultures and interests? There really is no comparable example no matter how much you hate the guy.

I personally don't view Winston Churchill as a role model for prime ministers, and I also don't think DC has made as big changes as WC has. So, no.
