I think we should watch North By Northwest. Can't beat a Hitchcock classic.

Morning everyone

Are we going to settle on a film? I'll be watching Pretty in Pink this weekend (sorry Marsh i don't have North by Northwest on my NowTV package which is another film i haven't watched, so i'll look out for it on TV)

If you all decide on another film then i'll check in to see what it is and will watch that too

Enjoy the weekend

Let's go with Pretty In Pink in that case. I've never heard of it to be honest so I've got no expectations at all. I'll try and watch it today or tomorrow because I'm going on holiday on Sunday but if I don't manage it by then, I'll watch it when I get back.

I just watched this in January or February... but I will watch it again because well... Ducky of course

Also, when I did watch it last I made my sig a gif of the movie and no one knew what it was... it was the most iconic scene... ... so I am all for the promotion of the whole forum watching this movie, one of the best of the 80's imo.

Plus, I feel a little like Andie lately

And yes it is a chick flick, but really really funny. The characters are great. Just give it your best shot DTM

Hi Mokka i have twins both are coming up for 15, one of my girls is mad on the 80's, she loved The Breakfast Club and she loved Pretty in Pink (as we've just watched it)

She told me that she thinks she was born in the wrong decade, and with what the youth of today has i completely agree with her, the 80's were brilliant even though i were only 5 in 1980 and 14 in 1989 i can remember looking at the adults as they walked by going to the pub on a Friday and Saturday night thinking how cool they all looked

Pretty in Pink my review:

Spoiler:

I loved this film, it's completely nostalgic for me, the fab soundtrack, the great hairstyles and the cool clothes, loved Ducky lip syncing Try a Little Tenderness, this was the highlight for me it touched on unrequited love (i remember a boy who had feelings for me but i only saw him as a friend) and the class system (i come from an unprivileged background so could empathise with Andie to a certain extent as there's a lot of pressure put on kids to fit in and many kids do stick with 'their own kind' which is a shame, so i actually think this film is very relevant in todays society), my daughter could associate with Andies unique style as she doesn't follow trends and chooses to be her own person, a great brat pack movie 8/10

My girl just turned 15 this March

Yes, I was a child of the 80's myself... But my sisters were teens in the 80's and I lived vicariously through them. I was the youngest so I theived their clothes and shoes and such when they weren't looking...and I got them to backcomb my hair for me for dates at the roller rink and everything

It was a great decade indeed!!

Pretty In Pink

Spoiler:

Where to start. I did not find it as much as a chick flick as I thought it was going to be, sure it had the love story part, but it was more of a 80's film, which I like in films/music as I like the 80's, and wish I grew up during that time. With the characters, I liked Annies boss the most; she defines 80's, her style, her over the top hairstyle that changes every 20 mins of the films. I like Annie as well, it was good to see her go from someone who was quite ashamed of herself about her lifestlye, to by the end not giving a ****. I also liked Blane, sure he was sometimes misguided, but I think his heart was in the right place, and I was definitely rooting for him and Annie to be together (not that I care about the love part)

I hated Duckie, sorry but I get he was in love with Annie, but the guy was clearly a psychopath, potential stalker/Serial Killer. He was just a twat. I was half expecting the film to turn into a slasher movie and Duckie ends up killing all of Blanes snobby friends (lets be honest they should have died anyway).

Overall I enjoyed it more then I thought I would. Its better then St Elmos, but I consider Breakfast Club and 16 Candles better films. Still I would rate it 4/5.

It will be interesting to see who everyone thinks Annie should have ended up with? Blane, Duckie, or should she had said **** off to both of them and stayed single, potentially her and her boss going all thelma and louise?

Spoiler:

interesting fact.... The original screen play had her going off with Duckie... They changed it when they filmed it.

And I think you are being rather hard on the Duckster... He was a teenager in love, sure with very little selfawareness, but how many teens do have it?? He was Andies lifelong friend, she didn't just suffer him, she did love having his friendship, just not an attraction

I mean I am team Duckie all the way... Especially since his hair at the grad was so on point, and Blain's looked like some weird helmet or something

I rewatched last night but didn't want to give my review until others had a chance... But a solid 8.5/10 for me.

Just finished. I'm so glad someone suggested this film

Spoiler:

Well, it was a John Hughes film so you can't really go wrong in that regard, and overall the film lived up to expectations and was very enjoyable. I loved Andie as a character and her relationships with most of the others (her dad, Duckie, Blane (who I found oddly attractive), Iona). I can't really say who my favourite person was but I really liked them all in different ways (except the assholes but obviously we weren't supposed to like them ). Iona was a really fun character, and I loved how quirky and cool she was. Duckie was adorable although I did find him a little weird at the beginning, but then when it was revealed that they were friends for 8 years so their relationship made a lot more sense to me, lmao.

The class-divide being an integral part of the film also came across very Romeo and Juliet, and I'm really pleased that Andie and Blane got a happy ending (). I understand why people would want Duckie and Andie together, but I love them as friends and only friends. Also, what types of people would you call the two sides? Like, is it preppy and alternative, or was there another name for these groups of people? I'm not as much into American sub-culture as I'd like to be.

I kind of wish the mean girls got more of a comeuppance, but oh well. I suppose the main douche's story arc came full circle so that's good enough for me. It was also quite strange that Andie's high-school friend just dissapeared after 30 minutes of the film.

I would give this film a 7, almost an 8. The costuming was a fantastic highlight, very cool and trendy especially on Andie and Iona's behalf (and Duckie at the prom ). I don't think this is as good as The Breakfast Club, but I can definitely see why this film is considered a classic. I definitely need to watch more John Hughes films as I haven't seen Sixteen Candles, St.Elmo's Fire or Weird Science. Actually, after looking up his films there's so many I haven't watch, and I didn't even know he produced Home Alone (I haven't really watched that either ).

Can't wait to see what next film wll be
