The new Ghostbusters, partly out of curiosity and partly out of spite for everything leading up to its release

For what it was, it was a good'un, and I'd give it a big girly 7

I'm working my way through the highly-regarded classics, by which I mean that I last watched Zootopia, and in all honesty the Godfather bit is one of the funniest things I've seen in a kids' film for a while

I promise I'm not on LSD

Buried with Ryan Reynolds has possibly one of the worst death endings i've ever seen. I started watching late so can't give it a fair rating.

Ghostbusters - I Really enjoyed it, I had low expectations after how much it was being dragged but for me it really worked and the female leads were all great. It did feel a bit Scooby Doo to be fair and some things sort of lead to nothing (the first scene for example) but those are little niggles.

I will give it a 7

Did a double film day at the cinema today:

Suicide Squad - 8/10
I'm not sure where all the negative reviews are coming from. Was it perfect? No. I wasn't expecting it to be as enjoyable as it was and the more I think on it, the more I realise how much I enjoyed it. I had a good few laughs at it. Margot Robbie was perfect in it too, completely stole the show.

Finding Dory - 8.5/10
Loved it. I think Finding Nemo is a better film overall but as far as sequels go, this one was definitely a step up from the likes of Cars 2 and Monsters University. I think it had a great balance between comedic scenes and the emotional scenes and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I loved Suicide Squad. And Jared Leto was amazing as The Joker

The BFG

I saw it at the Tyneside Cinema and give it a 9/10

It loses a point for some possible plot holes, which may or may not be fair and what seems to be an inconsistency

Spoiler:

Sophie lives in an orphanage at the start of the film. In 1975 when this was a short story and 1982 when the book came out, those institutions in the UK may have been around, but in 2016, when the film was released, as far as I am aware, the only place were children are kept in institutions are secure training centres where children are sent to by the courts. Today orphans are usually placed with the wider family or if that is not available, in foster care rather than an orphanage. (Let me know if orphanages still exist in the UK, especially London where the film seems to start off)

This could be unfair, given when the book was published, and as stated, practices have changed, but he director does not establish that the film events take place in 1975 or the 1980's so the assumption is that it takes place in 2016.

Sophie says she was orphaned as a baby, so why if this takes place today, is she in an orphanage? A few years ago there was an initiative to give financial incentives to councils who placed children up for adoption, which led to allegations of legal baby snatching by social service departments, as babies were easier to place. According to the summary of the book, it states Sophie is young. If that is so, she was an orphaned baby when this policy was in full force, so she would not have been in an institution, she would have been adopted out.

The bad giants seem to shrink when they get picked up by the helicopters near the end, indicating that scales seem to change, which is inconsistent. If you know the helicopter they use, you will spot that one

Mean Girls - it was raining, we were in our caravan and had nothing else to do, so we ate chocolate, crisps and sweets whilst watching my daughters favourite film. (Have to admit this film is a guilty pleasure)

9/10

No, 2D. I could see though how a lot of the swooping shots around the space city were done for 3D.

I can't even at cruel intentions 2. 😩 3/10 and I'm only being generous because it has Robin Dunne who was literally in every teen drama I loved.

Yeah they should have left it alone with the first. It really didn't need a sequel

Hush
I thought it was excellent. It's about a deaf woman who is attacked by a murderous home invader. The way they utilised the deafness of the main character was great and it was a highly tense film throughout. I loved how little dialogue there was, it really helped ramp up the tension. Only bad thing about it is that, aside from the deaf angle, it's a bit typical in places but still an excellent horror film.

8/10

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny
It's a competent martial arts film but a poor follow up to CTHD. It doesn't have the heart that the first film had and the plot is both weak and full of holes. I didn't mind it for what it was but I was very disappointed when I think of how good the original was.

5/10

Eye in the Sky - Not usually a lover of war type films but this was really good, so tense and more scary because you can imagine this sort of thing happening right now with all these terrorist attacks 8/10
