Fluctuating weight is not normally a topic that is acceptable to ridicule, but Kate Garraway did just that when discussing Cheryl on Good Morning Britain on Friday morning.

Chezza transformed during her recent marriage, sparking concerns with her ever shrinking figure and she blamed "stress" in her marriage to Jean-Bernard for her smaller frame.

However, while discussing Cheryl's claims on the Good Morning Britain couch with Richard Arnold and Ben Shepherd, Kate appeared to mock the Parachute singer's claims.

After Richard revealed how Cheryl’s divorce documents stated her marriage caused her to lose weight, Kate said: "She’s really ballooned," as a recent picture of the singer with new man Liam Payne appeared on screen.

Kate added: "That’s what counts as putting on weight in Cheryl ’s world," which Richard and Ben found hilarious and they all had a good laugh.

Richard tried to defend the star and said: "She’s now happy with Liam Payne, she’s happy now!"

However, following the show a close source to Kate told the Mirror Online that her comments were misconstrued.

The source said: "Kate is mortified that anyone would think that she was mocking Cheryl or her weight problems. From the clip it’s clear that Kate was actually making a sarcastic comment about the fascination with Cheryl's weight.

"This is a very sensitive subject for Kate, having suffered scrutiny about her own weight following the birth of Darcey which was due to a thyroid problem. She would never mock anyone with this issue".
