Actress Tricia McCauley has tragically been found dead after a suspected carjacking.

The star was reported missing on Boxing Day (December 26, having not turned up to a Christmas Day meal she was expected at.

Her brother then launched a Facebook appeal after she missed a flight to Oregon, but has now confirmed that her body has been found.

"Tricia is gone, they have found her body," he told WUSA-TV. "Thank you all for your work, support and love."

According to The Washington Post, a dog walker in Washington, DC discovered her car. Police when then alerted and found a man who had been seen driving it.

The man in question, Adrian Duane Johnson, 29, allegedly then handed the police the keys, and they reportedly found McCauley's body in the trunk. A police statement said that she had been "strangled and beaten".

Johnson has now been charged with first-degree murder, according to The Daily Telegraph.
