Default Question about CBB5 for all of you...

So I've been watching through all the CBB seasons chronologically and I've currently finished CBB1-CBB4 + CBB17, doing this so that on this forum I can do my own thread in which I rank every housemate from worst to best.

I'm currently on CBB5 and finished Carole Malone's eviction (Day 10). But a weird thing I noticed was that at one point when Davina was describing the voting lines and who to vote for, the crowd suddenly start chanting "Shilpa OUT! Shilpa OUT!" This kind of confused me. Keep in mind this was before any of the racism debacle surrounding Shilpa being mistreated (though it was started by Jackiey), but I don't get it. Shilpa didn't really have any negativity edited surrounding her, and she wasn't even up for eviction on this night. For the crowd to chant someone to be out who's not nominated in the first place, it would mean they'd have to be REALLY hated e.g. Perez, Gemma, Julie, John. So can anyone tell me why is it that Shilpa was so scorned by the crowd in the early days of CBB5?

Also on a side note does anyone know a good place to watch CBB5 besides YouTube? Viacom removed one or two episodes

Because she was a WOC. The same way Hira received 'OFF' chants when entering the house just for daring to state how much she loved the UK. :/

And I don't think so, use a proxy for those blocked episodes.

Let's be clear that Shilpa would have been out immediately after Carole and Jade would have won the whole show if the race row never happen. Funny how it changes

The voting public see racism in others but not themselves?

Do show us the evidence that was booed for her skin colour? Especially at a time in the show's history where not many housemates received cheers at all.

Let's not twist it. Until Jade/Jo/Danielle's shocking treatment of her stepped up a gear and started to dominate highlights, Shilpa was pretty much a boring nonentity.

Shilpa to me was always a boring housemate who thought she was much better than everyone else, even before all the horrible **** started to happen.

I think classism was a big factor. Which is also how I think it started in the house before it snowballed into race becoming a part of it.

I disagree. Shilpa did have a personality besides all this. She was socially awkward, curious about how life from a non-wealthy background works unlike her own, faced for the first time being in an environment without an entourage, and had a quirky sense of humor. And as a side note she was funny with Dirk in early episodes, like mispronouncing his name as Duck or when she laughed off his obvious advances at her.

And to be fair, a LOT of CBB housemates were non-entities in the early days... I cannot think of one influential or important housemate in CBB1 & 2 apart from Vanessa Feltz. As someone who's watched the early episodes of CBB5 recently, the only people I saw with an over-abundance of focus was Leo, Jade, Jackiey, and Danielle

When did Shilpa ever claim or act like she's better than anyone else ? She nearly broke into tears when she couldn't sacrifice herself to be a hotel guest into going in a small room, preferring to have nobility with her actions.

Let's not get into this debate again.

This is also a myth that needs debunking tbh. Entertaining is subjective but having recently re-watched the series, I thought she was a pretty good housemate even before the whole race row came into play. She was nice, well-spoken, cultured and her intelligent conversations (something which is a rarity in today's BB) with Carole and Cleo were quite refreshing. I personally didn't think she was boring until all the racism kicked in and I liked her all the way through.

Shilpa will probably end up my favorite CBB housemate ever after I'm done watching and do the ranking TBH

I'm not saying she didn't have an interesting personality.

There's many people who were pretty much nonexistent on the show who would have thrived in other series/circumstances.

But prior to the race row beginning she was a background character.

What debate again?

You can't just blame the dislike of a housemate on racism and that's it.

Either explain yourself or don't make such silly accusations.

It's not a myth. I meant non existent as in not so much of a dominating focus of the highlights. She was a background character.

But of course, back in those days we had live feed and stuff so the highlights weren't the only thing we got from the show.

This. I think that was the primary reason for the clash between her and Jade. Then followed some of Jade's daft comments she didn't think through.

Danielle and Jack were the primary guilty party for racism IMO.
