The xx have shared the first full song from their next album, I See You. “On Hold” is out now; you can stream it below. The track prominently samples “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do),” the 1981 hit by Hall and Oates. The xx recently shared several brief snippets of new music. They’re scheduled to perform later today on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show.
Four years after releasing their sophomore album, Coexist, the xx have announced its highly anticipated follow-up. I See You is out January 13 via Young Turks. The album, produced by Jamie Smith and Rodaidh McDonald, was recorded between March 2014 and August 2016 in New York, Marfa, TX, Reykjavik, Los Angeles, and London. Check out the cover and tracklist below. (The box set comes with three bonus tracks.) The band preceded the album with several mysterious snippets of new music, introduced through a playlist of songs they were listening to in the studio.
Last year, Jamie xx released the solo album In Colour, which featured both his xx bandmates, Oliver Sim and Romy Madley Croft.
