So I thought I'd buy a cheapo winter coat as it's, well...nearly winter. ;0)
I looked on Ebay and there were some good coats between £12-£20. Brand new. Delivery in two working days. Free shipping. Before I bought one, I thought I'd visit the charity shops and see if there were any bargains there. It's about 3 years since I've been in one but what a shock. A dull shirt with a missing button and frayed collar £4.50. A pair of old shoes some old goat had worn and sweated their feet in, the cost? An incredible £8. Then I turned to the coats. A fake leather jacket for £25. . Loose stitching inside. An over-washed fleece, £11. No surprise, I left. Pronto. |

The quality of some of the stuff is obviously not the best, but I've always found the price to be quit reasonable. Although some of the coats can be more expensive (like up to £30)

Id say 90 % of CS have stuff that will never sell in. The other 10% is over priced.
I buy lots at auction and most charity shops are full of crap that would never sell even at a £1 at an auction. You get the odd thing now and then but mainly its just stuff people do not want (and neither does anyone else). |

You wont find any bargains, all items are checked against ebay and dealers value ceramics and gold items often buying the good stuff.
Plus staff get first dibs on stuff that comes in. Obviously the hospice need to get as much as they can but you can buy brand new items in Primark for less than they ask for used worn out crap. |

Stuff they couldn't sell, so they threw out. I have to confess I 'rescued' a few very nice ornaments from that bin. But it would seemed they 'cottoned on' to this and now they have a big padlock. Six in fact. On the bins. |

Yeah the shoes usually look really old, but the clothes are most often fine. I did see a stained coat on a market stall the other day though Like I think the majority of people would rather pay £5 extra and have something brand new.

Recently whilst in Broughty Ferry smallest boy LT and me were dismayed to find a half decent crazy golf course was shut. As we had passed about 8 charity shops down the main street we decided to go raking around for 2 putters. Charity shops do not yet realise that old golf clubs are of no use to golfers and are not collectable unless like pre- 1930. After visiting like 6 (there are 8 in the high street ) we found 2 old putters and 2 balls for like £5, then we went back to the crazy golf, jumped over the fence and had a great game culminating with smallest boy LT winning with a hole in one on the last. He declared it was the "best day ever"
I think he mainly liked the illegal aspect of it |
