Police have told people to take cover inside buildings, while officers respond to reports of an incident at London's Oxford Circus Tube station.
British Transport Police said officers were at the scene and warned people to avoid the area in London's West End. "Oxford Circus Station is closed while we investigate a customer incident," Transport for London said. BBC reporter Helen Bushby said she had seen a "mass stampede" of people running away from the station. People were "screaming and crying", she said. She spoke to a group of young women at Topshop, on Oxford Street, who said people had dropped their shopping and ran as quickly as they could. In a statement on Twitter, British Transport Police said: "We continue to respond to an incident at Oxford Circus. "The station is currently closed, please avoid the area at this time. Officers are on scene." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-42117311 Last edited by bitontheslide; 24-11-2017 at 04:22 PM. |

There are no reports of shots fired, Met Police have said, according to Reuters.
Here's the Met's full statement: To date police have not located any trace of any suspects, evidence of shots fired or causalities. Officers continue to work with colleagues from British Transport Police in the area of Oxford Circus. Updates will be provided as soon as we have them. If you are in building stay in a building, if you are on the street in Oxford Street leave the area. Officers are continuing to search the area.

Bringing some bad memories from the night on the bridge.
I hope it's just a false alarm, as it sounds like it.

Tough afternoon, had a family member there today and all kinds of things go through your mind. Luckily it seems to have been more of a panic than an incident. They said it was chaotic but managed to get home safely.

it seems like a couple of men having a fight started the panic. What is very encouraging though:
The first armed response vehicle was on the scene in less than a minute from receiving the first call, the force said. |
