TBH LT I don't think that's appropriate to this thread or fair to the woman and family of the woman who died in the article.

This post is the nasty one of the thread and you should be ashamed of yourself.

Oh well I'm sorry for the misunderstanding but not sorry for disapproving at the mocking of someone's bereavement and elderly mother.

There are some idiotic merges going on lately - a thread about Corbyn meeting with a dodgy group got lumped in with the antisemitism thread, and an unrelated gypsy funeral is now in here? whhyyyyyy

When I was a girl I knew some boys who lived on our estate and went a party. There was an argument and they were asked to leave. They went back armed, one of them with a screwdriver. A boy was killed by the screwdriver to his brain and the boy who did it went to jail. He was the older brother of a girl I was friendly with, nice family generally. He went back with the screwdriver and his intent wasn't DIY. People have been using screwdrivers as weapons for years. Sad but true.

To assume the screwdriver was taken to unscrew something is a very naive view.

The moral of this all is that when a burglar breaks in, do everything he says, offer no resistance, he is entitled to anything he wants, even carnal relations with anyone in your household.

Also, keep you trap shut and don't grass to the police

Burglary is a lawful occupation and was decriminalised by the Tony Martin case, and they are entitled to anything they want.

Also remember police advice is always offer no resistance, do not take people on.

Self defence is never a good idea, another moral of recent events in Hither Green

But the police always advise against being a have-a-go-hero

Remember this pensioner was originally arrested for murder

The police also seem to be on the side of the dead burglar by requesting the residents not to interfere with the shrine, because such interference is intimidating.

We have a topsy turvy world

If you go tooled up into any situation, you have to be aware.it can be taken from you and used against you. The fact that he apparently had the screwdriver to the home owner's throat shows he had the intent to use it as a weapon

I hope the shrine is ripped down and not put up. The pensioner defended his home and wife so why does he get punished?

And you're summising that he took a screwdriver to unscrew things during a night time robbery with the occupants at home? Not sure why you are trying to defend this man, I can get your stance on the relatives and flowers and whole traveller community and agree in some extent to that but the man was robbing the house of 2 oaps....armed with an offensive weapon, whether he intended to use it as a weapon is immaterial, he was breaking the law and committing a crime end of.

Just a spanner in the works, how did it go from the old age pensioner having the screw driver to his throat to him disarming a man half his age and stabbing him?

I wasn't there so no idea. Adrenaline is an amazing hormone in a flight or fight situation. Ive heard of 7 stone women lifting cars off their kids. Its not outside the realm of possibility

True, but you are making out a screw driver is commonly used as a weapon when it's commonly use to jemmy window frames ins doors.

Where have I said it is commonly used as a weapon in what I have posted so far?

I said whether he went with intent to use it as a weapon or not if you go tooled up woth something that could be used as an offensive weapon you should be prepared to have it used against you. Im from salford and believe me a screwdriver is often the weapon of choice as it can be used to jemmy windows but is also sharp enough to do damage plus its not as incriminating as a knife if you are stopped.

Are you saying that if a stranger was robbing your house in the night with your mrs in bed you wouldn't protect her and your property....?
