Also Starmer, Joey
can not take power with One Scottish Labour MP.

So until the UK General Election Oct-Nov 2024
it's a long wait

Of course he can.

You are forgetting that were Labour short of an overall majority.
Which I think they won't be looking at yesterday's results.

There's now NO other party who would commit to doing anything to assist the Cons to be in power.

The SNP wouldn't dare vote to bring down a minority Labour government.
Thereby helping the Cons back in via another possible election.
How the SNP would sell that to Scotland and inflict the Cons on them again.
They really would be likely finished then.

The votes in parliament wouldn't be there to risk another Con government.

It's incredible that in Parliament, every single other Party there.
Wants the Cons out and will not risk anything to have them back in.

If it was more necessary then the Lib Dems would be up for at least a voting agreement.
They've had to wait 10 years nearly to get their revenge on the Cons turning against them.

Plus you don't need 326 for an overall majority.
The speaker and the 3 deputy speakers don't usually vote in parliament.
Labour has to put up 2 and the Cons put up 2.

Sinn Fein currently on 7 seats don't come to Westminster.
So that leaves 639 MPs who vote in debates.
Not 650.
So only 320 is needed for to have overall majority votes in the Commons.
Not 326.

Sure, but in what capacity?

I think the most likely outcome is a coalition headed by Labour, or a hung parliament.

An outright win would require a larger landslide that Blair's.

the lib dem vote will disappear at the GE as it usually does and labour will end up with a tidy majority

I think there will be a massive swing to labour. You forget that its the swing seats that determine the result, most of which are artificially tory at the moment, so them returning to labour next time is pretty much a certainty

I agree with that and think and hope you are proved right.
Plus the Independents vote rarely feature strongly in general elections too.
Unlike in these local elections.

Now that "Brexit is Done", BoJo wasn't the fun clown everyone was expecting and is now gone anyway, and Corbyn is also gone (whatever you think of those topics, they affected the vote) I'm guessing some of the Red Wall will be restored.

Has there been any talk of other parties not standing in potential swing seats?

All labour have to do is play the speech of Sunak to the people of tunbridge wells where he crowed about taking money designated for levelling up in the north and gave it to the poor folks of tunbridge wells .... job done

He has actually been told that by a lot of Labour members.
I hope he has listened.

I'm very much in favour of hoisting people by their own petard he's not quite a Johnson where there's enough material to make a damning Sizzle Reel though.

The worst thing about the next election

After the results from Thursday, every commentator will say that Labour are
certain to win the next general election. But they’re wrong. Labour aren’t
going to win.

The Tories are going to lose.

This is a crucial distinction. Most voters are plainly motivated by grim
disillusionment with the Government – not delirious enthusiasm for Labour’s
policies, whatever they may be. By the election, the Tories will have been in
power for 14 years. More than enough for all but their most loyal supporters
to have grown heartily sick of them. So, as it tends to do in such
circumstances, the country will sigh, and give the sole available alternative a
whirl.

That, though, is not how pro-Labour pundits and celebrities will view it.
Instead, they’ll treat the result as an endorsement not only of Labour, but of
their own personal worldview.

“See!” they’ll crow. “This shows that the Tories got the British people
completely wrong, with their hateful Right-wing culture wars. Clearly the
public actually LOVE small boats. And puberty blockers, and the EU, and
reparations for slavery, and teaching primary school children about dildos.
The Tories are so out of touch…”

For Conservatives, this is going to be the worst thing about the next general
election. Not the result. But the gloating afterwards.

Yes it was.

Government's LOSE elections and oppositions then win.

That's so in ALL elections over all the decades.
It doesn't change the FACT one lot get thrown out and the other lot get put in.
So of course one lot will celebrate.
The other be left wanting.

Well if those who really want change got off their backsides and made a case for it, then voted for the nearest to the change they want.
Rather than just complain about governnments and Parties the voters actually do get off their backsides and vote for to at even just try to at least do something to enact change.
Maybe some new or better change could be achieved.

Major was ruined by his anti Europe backbenchers.

He was in his governnent on the way down.
That government deserved to lose and did
For its failures and division.
So it really lost the election.

Voters just got behind the one way to get that governnent out.

It's similar here too.
This shocking and detestable governnent deserve to lose but again by voters getting behind the one way to ensure they do.

I am furious at Starmer for his changes of mind and policy.
However this far, he hasn't u turned on anything in a manifesto he's presented to voters for government.

He hasn't a manifesto yet.
Were he to u turn on any manifesto then that criticism is more valid.

We've got in your government today Chris Philp who was chief secretary to the treasury under Truss's time with Kwarteng as Chancellor.
Stating all they were doing was right.

Now he's in Sunak's government under a totally different policy set up.

Now there's a creep who REALLY cannot be trusted.

A local election count was abandoned while votes were being tallied after one of the candidates died.

Gillian Lemmon, 52, was a Conservative hopeful in the Hilton ward for South Derbyshire District Council.

She died at about 12:45 BST after sudden health difficulties, the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) said.

Returning officer Ardip Sandhu said a by-election would now take place for all three vacant positions in the ward.

Had Ms Lemmon died after the result was declared there would only have been a by-election for her seat, not all three.
