There is a significant proportion of americans that don't want democracy and the msm just doesn't know how to handle it. We are well aware our system is screwed. We would vote in a bag of chips if it pissed off our govt enough. Our relationship with Our Overlords is completely dysfunctional.

The only people I really see wrapped up in partisan rhetoric are people generally who spend way too much time online and whose daily diet consists mostly of news media. It's not productive to argue with these individuals but they are at the forefront of our political identity across the world and are convenient tools for those in power. There is the "You must use your voice or else!" rhetoric that gets trotted around in the US, but it is very difficult to manipulate someone who stays silent when they know those try to incite some emotion have a motive. People have been speaking for decades. They're not listening, but twisting public sentiment on the fringes to suite their own agendas.
