Rich households will receive twice as much support aimed at reducing the cost of living than poorer households next year, a think tank has claimed.
The Resolution Foundation said if the government cuts National Insurance and limits energy bill rises, richer homes will get £4,700 in 2023, compared to £2,200 for the poorest. A typical household energy bill will be limited to £2,500 annually until 2024. The think tank said "details and costings" were missing from the plan. The huge support scheme could cost up to £150bn, but Prime Minister Liz Truss has refused to put a figure on it, saying "extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures". The Department for Business could not offer a comment when contacted by the BBC, due to the period of national mourning. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-62882964 |

Last month I decided to turn the freezer off and just store fresh food in the fridge.
My new electric bill in for this moth and it's £15.00 less than last month. Just shows how much electric freezers use. |

That is nothing with to do with taking control though, if Labour were in power they would tax the energy giants, Tories will find themselves out on their ear after the next election due to this insane policy

Taking back control was the leave message, whereas the EU are taking direct action. This version of labour plan on protecting the energy companies and giving them money, too.

what gets me is that no-one is talking about eating into the energy companies legit profits, its only the money that was demonstrably earned by the war. The government will have to do a U turn at some point

And that renewable energy tracks the gas price, though we keep being told investing in renewables is the way forward really grinds my gears

Interesting. A lot of folk buy in bulk ( meat / fish) and get it real cheap then freeze it so I guess it depends on the circumstances Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Now I just have enough in the fridge for a few days. And of course there is a small freezer department in the fridge. But a saving of £15 per month per year is £180. Not to be sniffed at. |

there are a lot of factors regarding the freezer, how new is it, was it defrosted properly, was it in a cool room, was the freezer nearly empty or nearly full. Those all affect how much energy the freezer uses

[British Gas-owner Centrica has reopened
its giant gas storage facility to boost the UK's supply over the winter. The energy firm said site would allow for "cheaper gas" to be stored for the colder months and help "reduce or stabilise costs" for households. The move comes after the UK's energy regulator said homes could face power cuts of up to three hours if gas supplies run low. Centrica said reopening Rough was "not a silver bullet for energy security". But it added: "It is a key part of a range of steps which can be taken to help the UK this winter."] https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-63423600 |

Octopus Energy to take over collapsed supplier Bulb
[Energy supplier Octopus Energy is to buy its smaller competitor Bulb. Bulb collapsed last year amid rising gas and electricity prices and has since been run by the government. Its 1.5 million customers will not see any change or disruption to energy supplies, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy said. The value of the deal has not been published but the BBC understands Octopus paid the government, between £100m and £200m. It is expected to be completed by the end of November.] https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-62877930 Last edited by arista; 29-10-2022 at 03:21 PM. |

Sunak will have to give more money to the poor.
That first £326 didn't even last a month, never mind three months. |
