Precisely. That's why I believe Anne to be not only a prude but also a homophobe as well. As a Gay man myself I am amazed at the level of support given to this bigoted woman in this group. Shows me that old hatreds against people like myself still simmer under the surface.

Just before I was 5 I recall her saying to one of my cousins that my cousin was out of date,as my cousin hated Breathe by the Prodigy, which my Grandmother predicted would make number one in the charts.

Maybe we were very lucky to have such open and tolerant Grandparents, who believed life is short and for living, anyway you wanted to legally.

I came out as a Gay man in about 1975 when in my early 20s. My Gran was totally OK with it and she was born in the early 1900s. When I first went out with my now husband in 1978 and visited my Gran she was more than happy to let us sleep in the spare room together. She had no issues at all with us being Gay. Thus, the excuses being made about Ann's age as an excuse for her bigotry and homophobia really doesn't hold, sorry. She is what she is: a bigot and a homophobe!

That's a lovely post to read.
Thanks for sharing it.

I am so glad you got a good experience when you needed to

You are right,it is wrong to tolerate bigotry and homophobia.
It sends the wrong signals to the bigot and homophobe, that their view has foundation to it.

Lovely post from you,I am only 25 but I know the 70s too was not the easiest times for the gay communities and as to rights.

No excuses are being made and good for you your gran was so accepting but not everyones was, that is a fact , people have different views on things ,simple as,I do not see her as homophobic or a bigot just some one with very strict traditions and a strict upbringing, I know my grandparents believed in a man and woman being married and having a family even divorce was frowned upon then, a man and a woman 'fit' they were brought up in a different time and generation and because everything is so in our faces now and anything goes does not automatically make it right, some people seem to have a massive chip on their shoulders about what we should and shouldn't like, just let people be.

Thank you very much too for your response which is heartening. I am though appalled at the level of tolerance given to Ann along with all the excuses about age etc. It's shameful. Good to know though that there are still younger people like yourself who are more accepting.

Seriously, you need to get over yourself.

That's about the 5th post now saying you're "appalled at the level of tolerance". Do you now see the irony in that???

How about if I said "I'm appalled at the level of tolerance for gay people"???

Tolerance works both ways.

I think it safe to say your post illustrates exactly what I have been trying to get across. If you believe that I am something to be 'tolerated' just because of my sexuality then I am truly sad for you.

Bend to 'our demands'?! I am demanding nothing other than equality. If that's too much to ask then I'm sorry because I am not getting back into the closet just to please someone like you and Ann Widdicombe!

The world doesn't owe me anything, thankfully I already have what I need thanks. That said, as I have said before, you can stand up and make excuses for Ann's bigotry and homophobia all you like but I for one am not getting back into the closet just to please narrow minded people.

If Ann's such a homophobe, why are Wayne and Amanda still friends with her?

You are my dear friend the very definition of a bigot:

bigot

/ˈbɪɡət/

noun

noun: bigot; plural noun: bigots

a person who is intolerant towards those holding different opinions.
"don't let a few small-minded bigots destroy the good image of the city"

synonyms: dogmatist, partisan, sectarian, prejudiced person; More

Actually, you seem to be one of the least tolerant people on this thread.

You must have seen how the world has changed for gay people? How it continues to change? I'm sure everyone on here has friends who are gay. I know I do. But they don't leap on every perceived insult. They just live their lives as what they are... an equal part of society.

You miss the point

Your Gran loves you as Andrews does but would she like to see you both rolling around the floor, sexually aroused?

It is the exhibitioning Ann doesn't like. There was no need to do this, they were doing it for the cameras in a public area.

If they were doing it in private, nothing would have been said.

What everybody seems to have missed is that Ann actually said she hates the theatric nature of it.

In other words she has sussed out that it's all an act between Andrew and Shortney.

I think it's gas people trying to claim homophobia against Andrew who isn't even gay. Like WTF??? He's an arsehole and we're not allowed say this because he's mates with a drag queen?

No One missed it (but ty for the heads up! )

Ann also admitted that ashley is playing a game..

Andrew always struck me as open minded in regards to most things even if his antics are not always appreciated at least he isn't anti same sex marriage etc (like ann) so its swings n roundabouts wrong doings from ann and andrew ...

I have zero problem with anyone having gay straight short tall fat thin red white blue etc friends

Act or not its been fun to watch without their antics it would have been biccies n coco or 1 hour a day of 'i'm a woman' / 'don't misgender me!' or perhaps hours of wayne tap dancing.. or johnny smoking.. or daniel trying to pretend he is not a foul mouthed eejit.. etc so yes I enjoyed and chuckled my old bits n bobs off when andrew dressed in drag and taped his zipedeedoodah up and took the tape off in shower much to the amusement of shane .. outside shower lol

Do i want andrew to win .. no would i like shane j to win (i did but he seems to have changed) got quieter much like ashley & g he seems to have been sucked into hugging Andrew.. and that's as entertaining as it gets pitty really..
but I won't start disliking them just cos everyone else is

((hugs)) sadly on forums come varying opinions and not all of them kind just know some of us don't think it should be tolerated all I can say is I can't wait for Ann to get off my TV
