It's not just about the kids, it's also about the staff. Teachers, assistants, office staff, cleaners, dinner ladies, caretaker - all the people it takes to run a school will be at OR feel at risk. Some of them won't be the youngest and fittest but they will be required to go back to work and spend 6 hours in the same room as a 15(?) kids from 15(?) other households, yet they are not yet allowed to spend time in a room with their own families if they are from a different household. How does one teacher on their own keep 15 primary kids social distanced for the whole day? How do they keep them separated at break and meal times?

I can see why no-one is happy with this situation. Right from the beginning we were told that the little darlings were all super spreaders and that's why we had to close the schools, and grandparents were kept away. Now they say children don't transmit the virus, or they are low risk of community transmission so the schools can be opened and the parents can get back to work. However they are not brave enough yet to say it is safe for the kids to mix with their own grandparents so something isn't quite right with this story. Why is it safe enough for strangers to mix with the kids but not their own families from different households?

Watching the article it seems clear that it was
Sage that failed to pass on the info,as data collected since march on hospital infections was classified and not released until may 5th.

there are going to have been 100's of mistakes made by any front line worker/government representative/agency ... we are human. This is something none of us has had to deal with before. It's easy for us to sit in our armchairs and criticize, it's much more difficult when having to make decisions in the moment.

Sure
But when the French Leader said
sorry for his big errors
he got more massive support.

Johnson PM is like Trump who
never says sorry.

He has terrible ratings now
because he is not honest at all

tbf it's an easier decision for the Irish government, the schools didn't stay open for key workers kids and they close for the holidays in two weeks anyway, schools didn't close here, and there are 8 weeks of the school year left, for the first six weeks of lockdown every day someone was complaining about the impact of schools being closed, now they are proposing to partially reopen everyday someone is complaining about the impact of open schools

Spot on bots,we will deal with it as best we can, I'm tired of listening to the moaning all the time, its not going to change anything, let's just get on with it and do our bit, mistakes will be made as you said, but a bit more positive thinking would be nice,we cant change anything, all we can do is follow what's put in place and be patient.

I think if mistakes have been made, they will need to be investigated and any wrong doing should be highlighted and the people responsible should be held accountable BUT I don't think now is the time to do that. If we run around blaming x,y and z for errors, more errors will be made. Let's get through it and then dissect it, if only to be more prepared for any future spikes of the disease.

Most outlets reporting that its 70 new cases affecting schools in France which has forced eight of them to close. That would be less than 0.1% of the schools that have reopened

I love that they have this plan of trying to get 5 year olds to stay two metres apart. I wonder if any of these politicians have actually encountered a 5 year old, or if Nanny did most of the early child raising?

Spoiler: Herding cats.

You cannot REALISTICALLY get most children under at least 9 or 10 to socially distance reliably. Even then there are going to be some that either flout the rules or just plain forget.

Even secondary pupils age don’t / won’t follow the 2 metre rule .. and that’s with just 6 in each class ...
