You'd have to be utterly foolish and completely ignorant to think that racial profiling isn't a thing. It's so strange how people go out of their way to deny it's existence, why? What does it actually cost you to admit that POCs are targeted more by the police than white people? Ask yourselves that.

Oh I just thought - if they mistyped the reg code, it'd (most likely) show a different make and model. A car with the "wrong" plates would certainly need investigating.

they don't tend to type reg codes these days, it's all done automatically from cameras and the systems alert them to dodgy vehicles

So he typed it in wrong, and the system told him the number he typed belonged to a different car on the other end of the country? They'd be rubbish cops if they didn't look into it.

I made this mistake yesterday. Not all police cars have cameras that do this.

Not if the person involved goes onto Twitter with a film of it instead of behaving like a real public servant and going straight to the Met.

To be fair it was Sunday. I know "crime doesn't sleep" and the Bobbies obviously work all year round, but the people she's need to speak to probably have Sundays off.

The windows were tinted so they were unable to ascertain the ethnicity, and they were respectful and polite when dealing with the occupants, maybe just don't bother pulling over cars with tinted windows in case it causes offence

Do you drive, Oliver? I've driven all around the country at different times, and not once have I ever been pulled for being far away from where my vehicle was/is registered, it just doesn't happen, and this is the first/only instance I've ever heard of it happening.

Why not try swapping your car's plates and see how long it takes to be pulled over? Last edited by Oliver_W; 12-08-2020 at 11:45 AM. |

a cars distance from it's home would only rate as secondary information, something else would have to trigger the stop

Depending on the actual error, cars roll off production lines with their plates in sequence. That's not foolproof because obviously there are beginnings and ends to these plates, but a small typing error wouldn't necessarily show a different make or model.

The police statement makes no mention of it's make or model, only it's registration, which speaks directly against what you were saying.

They were in Hackney, most drivers would be BAME. If Dawn's driver was stopped in Devon or something her harping on about being "racially profiled" might hold a few drops of water. |

So the police put out their version of events but chose to omit the most understandable and reasonable part of any explanation they could provide?

In the current BLM climate, there is now way they would have left it off that statement. That statement probably went through about 50 different sets of eyes before being released.

Sure, but there's simply no reason to assume they were profiled
