Exclusive: Producers were watching the rehearsals and watching for the chemistry behind the scenes at our first meet up. Some of our contestants and pros were getting on rather well. But some of the contestants have already started fighting. RileyH bumped into Barry and they got into a nasty catfight
...it's sure to be a really interesting series already...watch this space!
Launch will be next week and the couples have already been chosen. I urge the contestants to read up on my updates of the dances to get that expert knowledge in advance

The Foxtrot

The Foxtrot is a smooth, progressive dance characterized by long, continuous flowing movements across the dance floor. It is danced to big band(usually vocal) music. The dance is similar in its look to Waltz, although the rhythm is in a 4/4 time signature instead of 3/4. Developed in the 1910's, the Foxtrot reached its height of popularity in the 1930's, and remains practiced today

A beautiful, romantic dance, the Foxtrot is composed of fairly simple walking steps and side steps. The dance combines slow steps, which use two beats of music, and quick steps, which use one beat of music. The footwork timing is usually "slow, quick, quick" or "slow, slow, quick, quick." The Foxtrot must be danced very smoothly, with no jerking of the body. Timing is also a very important component of the Foxtrot. As the Foxtrot is more challenging than other styles of dance, it is usually recommended to master the Waltz and Quickstep prior to attempting it

The Argentine Tango

Argentine tango is a musical genre and accompanying social dance originating at the end of the 19th century in the suburbs of Buenos Aires and Montevideo. It typically has a rhythmic time signature, and two or three parts repeating in patterns such as ABAB or ABCAC. Its lyrics are marked by nostalgia, sadness, and laments for lost love. The typical orchestra has several melodic instruments and is given a distinctive air by the small button accordion called the bandoneon. It has continued to grow in popularity and spread internationally, adding modern elements without replacing the older ones

Argentine tango is danced in an embrace that can vary from very open, in which leader and follower connect at arms length, to very closed, in which the connection is chest-to-chest, or anywhere in between.

Tango dance is essentially walking with a partner and the music. Dancing appropriately to the emotion and speed of a tango is extremely important to dancing tango. A good dancer is one who transmits a feeling of the music to the partner, leading them effectively throughout the dance. Also, dancers generally keep their feet close to the floor as they walk, the ankles and knees brushing as one leg passes the other.

Argentine tango dancing relies heavily on improvisation; although certain patterns of movement have been codified by instructors over the years as a device to instruct dancers, there is a "basic step" called "basico". One of the few constants across all Argentine tango dance styles is that the follower will usually be led to alternate feet. Another is that the follower rarely has his or her weight on both feet at the same time. In many modern variations of Argentine Tango, particularly in Europe, teachers of Tango may establish a "basic step" in order to help students to learn and pick up the "feel" of the dance

Some of my favourite Argentine Tangos include

Any chance a mod can put this in the games section?

I don't think anyone is seeing it all the way down in the strictly section and it launches next week

Katya Jones and Nadiya bychkova branded some of the female contestants as "rude" "bitchy" and "desperate" and "worse than the loose women" as some of them were seen gossiping about Amy Jade being all over AJ pritchard hoping he will be her partner

LeatherTrumpet was almost thrown off the show as he walked into the female pro dressing room claiming he was trying to find the men's toilets

More updates and exclusives will be with you as we hear more of the gossip from backstage. For now, keeeep Dancing!

The Rumba

A slow, romantic, and sensual Latin dance, born in the 1930's, taking elements from the Cuban Bolero. In this dance, both partners typically stand at close distance from each other, making slow and smooth movements throughout the dance.

The Paso Doble

Pasodoble (Spanish: double step) is a Spanish military march, and also a modern dance that emulates the movements of a bullfight.

Essentially, the Pasadoble dance involves role-playing. This two-person dance form has the man performing as the bullfighter and the woman as the cape. It is known as one of the fastest Latin ballroom dances because dancers make around 120 to 130 beats/steps per minute. In some versions, the man portrays the matador in the dance, and the woman portrays the bull. Flamenco-likequalities infuse the dance as the man and woman challenge each other.

Pasodoble is a lively style of dance to the duple meter march-like music. Its original form as a Spanish military march is still interpreted in the context of the Moors and Christians festivals, in southeastern Spain, and is the major focus of current Pasodoble productions.
