Emmerdale was Tuesday evening's top-rated soap (October 8) as the Amy and Kyle storyline took a dramatic turn, overnight figures show.

6.84m (33.0%) watched at 7pm on ITV and 233k (1.0%) on +1 as an hour-long episode saw Amy rescue Kyle after he fell into a river.

Unsurprisingly, EastEnders struggled due to its schedule clash with Emmerdale and the rival soap's head start. 4.52m (20.6%) tuned in at 7.30pm on BBC One as Michael and Janine's custody rows continued, but BBC Three's repeat screening later saw a boost with 764k (5.5%) watching at 10.30pm.

19.00 - Emmerdale - 6.84m (33%)/7.06m (34%)
19.30 - EastEnders - 4.52m (20.6%)

EastEnders clashed with Emmerdale between 19.30 and 20.00, which explains its low ratings.

It's the ITV who schedule the clashes, not necessarily Emmerdale. And it beats EE on a regular basis right now because it's simply the better soap currently.
