You're walking down a dark alley at night, and as you get about 25% of the way through, you notice three dudes in hoodies about 25% of the way though at the other end. Would you turn back or bravely walk past them hoping not to get stabbed?
I would turn around. |

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Turning back would just draw more attention to yourself if they had bad intentions - so I'd walk ahead normally.

I have been in a similar situation. I entered a long dark alleyway from one end with a guy coming in the other end. I got a feeling about it - but ignored it. As we approached each other - he suddenly stood in front of me and opened his jacket. He had nothing on except suspenders. I tried to walk passed him and he grabbed me - and I fell over. He ran off but hovered behind a bush and I swore at him. Someone in a nearby house had seen the incident and came out to help me after calling the police. I should have trusted my instincts - and turned around. It could have been worse. Strangely enough a year later the police came to see me wanting more details as another young girl had been attacked in the same alley, on the same day - and they suspected a student. Never heard if anyone was ever charged. Last edited by WOMBAI; 06-04-2010 at 10:54 AM. |

I'd walk through but be completly terrified at the same time. As it's been said, if you turn around it draws more attention.
And Wombai.. that's horrible

My gran and one of her friends were walking in their local park one summers evening and a man who was apparently quite well endowed flashed them, my grans friend had a stroke, the flasher then ran off, my gran couldnt quite reach.
In answer to the OP, depending on the likelihood for muggings etc in that area but generally keep on walking, your body will react by going into a fight or fight mode, so be ready to run or to fight. So evaluate possible escape routes as you walk forward. Dont look down or cower as you approach, look up and whilst not staring at them aggressively keep your eyes level and looking forward. Be prepared to hand over valuables etc, though depending on the situation, you could also prepare yourself by utilising normal everyday objects as weapons, eg hold your keyring in the palm of your hand with the keys poking through your fingers like a makeshift knuckle duster. |

I would keep walking, cos not everyone in a hoody is going to stab you. If I had a bad feeling about it though,I would turn around.

I don't go down dark alley's anyway
Although I think I agree with Shaun, turning back will only draw more attention to yourself

Good idea. To answer the question, if you arent afraid keep walking... If you are run, because you turn and walk the other way and they have bad intentions.. then they ma chase if you walk, if you run, they dont know who it was and likely they wont catch you

Not appearing scared will not save a person from those that intended to attack in the first place - particularly when they outnumber the victim. If they didn't have bad intentions - you just might look a bit of a plonker. It isn't worth the risk - just to save face! |

I'd keep walking with a pissed off look on my face: the same one I have when I walk past those fricking charity cases that stand on main streets and harass passers by to give their money to charity - niiiiiit! If I wanted to give it to charity, I would do it directly. Er, to get back to the point, I would keep walking towards them. And if something bad happened to me, then it'd serve me right for walking down a dark alley at night .

I never walk anywhere in the dark if I'm alone anyway so wouldn't ever be an issue really for me but hypothetically I think honestly I'd turn round and walk the other way.

I would turn around and take the scenic route, remembering that I never walk down dark alleys anyway.
