Junkie Phil Mitchell sets the EastEnders boozer on fire during a huge row with mum Peggy, who locks him in his room to get him off drugs in a sensational Albert Square storyline.
Lovers Max and Vanessa, played by Jake Wood and Zöe Lucker, desperately try
to flee the fireball and get everyone out alive in Thursday’s episode.

But rumours are rife that Peggy will die in the blaze, as Barbara Windsor is leaving the soap.

I'm anxious about how this is going to pan out. I'm not impressed with Kirkwood's work atm tbh and if he makes Phil start the fire and it does kill an established character (particularly Peggy) then there really isn't much future for Phil's character. He's already got blood on his hands for that tramp from the '90s, Dennis Rickman and Kevin Wicks. This would be a sensational step too far.

Meh, she's a bit of a campy, trampy whore.

She was billed as a successful woman who gets what she wants but not through manipulation and what we get is a materialistic wife and mother who's banging Max left, right and centre. She has the morals of an alley cat

I`m hoping that both Peggy & Sam get killed off in this. I can`t stand either of them. Barbara Windsor seems to leave & return very often. I hate it when she comes back. Just make sure she can`t come back this time. Danniella Westbrook is a useless actress so I hope they get rid of her too.
I know this is nothing to do with the fire but please don`t get rid of Minty, he`s such a great character & we don`t want Heather to be heartbroken.

Tbh I don't think either Vanessa or Jodie will die because they're Kirkwood's first characters so they'll be precious to him like Ronnie and Roxy were to Santer. And because they're new if one of them dies it won't be as emotional as a longer running character, unless it was his idea all along to kill one of them to develop the other.

Ooh I forgot that Stacey's exit is meant to be around Christmas apparently, perhaps there is a surprise in there that they are keeping under wraps?.

I just can't see them killing Peggy off, obviously they would like Barbara Windsor to return in the future but the character needs a big and justified send off...

I wish you were right but both have been seen filming on set since the fire.

I think the only real possibilty of death is Peggy. Her last episode is 40 minutes long and straight after is a Peggy Mitchell Revealed special.

Apparently the fire starts by Phil and Peggy rowing in the Vic and Phil threatens to burn the Vic down and Peggy doesn't take him seriously but the next thing she knows he's dropped a match on the floor and the whole place is up in flames.

I get the feeling we will be left thinking Peggy died in the fire and the characters believe she dies too, only she appears on the QE2 a few weeks later jetting off into the sunset.
