The Gender Recognition Act 2004 is an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom that allows transsexual people to change their legal gender. It came into effect on April 4, 2005.

Operation of the law

The Act gives transsexual people legal recognition as members of the sex appropriate to their gender (male or female) allowing them to acquire a new birth certificate, affording them full recognition of their acquired sex in law for all purposes, including marriage. Just because she's acquired the right to call herself a woman, doesn't mean she is a woman. From a medical point of view, she's a man on hormone treatment. In hospital, she'd get a single room rather than be put on a ward with other ladies. She has a Y chromosome in every cell of her body, and her personality reflects this.

Provided she has a Gender Recognition Certificate, she is legally a woman and it can be an offence, in law, to treat her as anything else.

Very well said. If Coolio was joking he would have hidden one or two pairs of shoes, not the whole lot. It was an aggressive act. Those shoes are very expensive and a large part of Nadia's identity. She has a right not to be degraded. It is interesting how people are using the shoe issue to be transphobic. It always comes out in the end.
