Default Tom Hardy cast in Nolan's third Batman film.

Quote:
According to Deadline, the actor will be reunited with Inception director Christopher Nolan for the latest film about the caped crusader; however, it is not yet known what part he will be playing.

Insiders have suggested it could be a villain, as Christian Bale is expected to reprise his role as Batman/Bruce Wayne.

Previously, rumours had suggested that the bad guy in the third instalment of Batman would be the Riddler, with (500) Days of Summer star Joseph Gordon Levitt being linked to the role.

It was also suggested that Fight Club actor Ed Norton might take on the part, however, he recently told fans not to believe everything they read.

It is expected that filming on Batman 3 will begin filming in May 2011.

Actor Michael Caine, who played Alfred the butler in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, recently told the Radio 1 Breakfast Show: 'There will be a new Batman. It will probably start in May next year. I assume I'm there, but in the movie business you never believe anything, you assume.'

He added that Nolan will keep the identity of the film's villain under wraps for as long as possible.

'No one will tell you. Chris is the most secretive man in the world.'

Tom Hardy is an amazing actor, he'd make an awesome Batman bad guy imo, so I hope this is true

It'll be interesting to see if he does play the villain which I'm guessing he will. I hope it's not The Riddler though. Save him for the next one and give us someone we haven't seen in a film before like Black Mask or something.

I don't want him playing the Riddler. There's a serial killer from the comics who he'd play brilliantly.

Zzsaz? I think that's his name. He'd be an interesting choice although he couldn't carry a film by himself.

Yeah, that's the one. Think that type of criminal would suit the world that Nolan created, plus Hardy would be great in that kinda role.

That's the problem with a real world setting, unless you dramatically change the villains you can't use half of them since they're superpowered. On a flip side it could lead to the lesser known villians like Black Mask or Hush being used when they woudn't normally.

If they ever bring Robin into it I'd love to see a Nolan take on the Red Hood.

Read about those two villians online a few hours ago (not a big comic fan) and yeah, sound like they wouid be very good options for the next film. Still like the serial killer/assassin fella though. Oh, but I read that he was mentioned in Batman Begins already....

Yeah, he's always more of an annoyance then a main villain from what I've read. It'll be interesting to see what they do in a few films time though since they'll soon run out of the more realistic villains and they're rapidly running out of villains that can carry a film by themselves.

It'd be interesting to see if they ever bring Robin into the films, He'd be a tough character to do well but it'd be good to see a version of him that isn't awful.

I've always preferred Batman on his own though... don't know why, but it makes him cooler in my eyes.

Eh, the only trouble with the two you mentioned is that they have a history with Bruce Wayne that stretches back into his childhood, right? Or maybe wrong cuz I was scanning the pages!

I was actually just thinking that Bale would make a terrific Riddler.

I think they do, I'm not a comic reader, I've just watched the films and played a lot of the games and such. I suppose If either villain were to be used in a film they'd alter the history slightly.

I think Robin could be done well, but not for a few films yet. In literally all but one of the films I've seen they've always made Robin cheesy and that's their downfall. He shouldn't be some sort of comic relief or a pointless sidekick, instead he should be more of an apprentice and be seen as more similar to batman rather then some out of place kid in brightly coloured tights.

It could be done well, but it'd be a challenge and as Robin plays a big part in the Batman mythos I can see them doing it at one point.

Actually, that could play out well and Nolan could draw comparisons to Wayne's time with Neeson's character. Yeah, if done right it could be classy.
