I often think of this when I'm watching a talent show.
When someone auditions, it's vital they get through the stages. So do they audition with what they think is their best act, remembering first impressions count ? Or do they use something weaker in hope of saving the best until last ? If there's three stages in the competition and you have three acts, which order would you perform them ?

I'd probably do my best first because if I didn't make enough of a first impression there wouldn't be another one

I'd perform almost to my best at the start, then improve ever so slightly in the 2nd stage, and again at the 3rd if I made it.

I think that's how I would do it, then panic if I made it to the next stage
