Barack Obama is responsible for roughly $900 billion of that amount. George Bush kept things like tax cuts, the middle-east wars, and a drug programme off the budget. Obama has put them on the books.
Don't believe the right wing lies that Obama is growing debt and increasing the size of government. Whilst the government is struggling, the republicans have blocked bills to increase tax on the wealthy and close tax loopholes (research the Grover Norqvist tax pledge). Corporations and the rich are making record profits on the backs of the midddle/working classes. The republicans are also trying to ban unions, there is an election in Wisconsin on Tuesday, that is crucial to the future of America. If the republicans can defeat the unions, then the Democrats have no way to compete in elections anymore. |

Jesus H Christ makes a valid comment as to how the figures are now compiled under Obama but the people won't care much about that, the word will be that under Obama little has changed as to the debts in recent years and that will likely be what sticks with the voters in the main. I thought he had a fair chance of re-election a few months ago, I have my doubts as to that now though. |

Yes, that's true. And he was doing so well too. There are probably more dems than repubs in america but since Republicans are way more patriotic to their country. That's why Conservatives come back and back. And Obama announcing he's for gay rights doesn't help a living soul.
We just may as well elect the head pastor of the Westboro Baptist Church and watch our country become a facist state. Unless there's a huge scandal and Romney's hiding something big. Obama's ****ed And on top of that, The republicans have control of the senate, which means the right legislature cannot be passed.

Obama came into office in Jan 09. Look at the job losses he was left by Bush, then look at how they stopped hemorrhaging jobs, and began to create them. You don't understand how American politics works, Arista. You have to get any legislation through the 2 houses - senate and congress. The right wing has now, because of a procedure called the fillibuster, has meant in order for dems to pass anything, instead of requiring 51 votes, as has happened for most of American history, they now need a super majority (60 votes) which has meant that they've been unable to pass any bills at all since the mid term elections in 2010. You might not understand these facts, but the American system is rigged to enable tax breaks for the rich, and they are about to strip out the safety nets if Romney gets elected. |

(Despite the fact that congress can overturn a veto with a certain majority) and senate and congress don't you mean House of Representatives?

I was thanking you for the correction, I was correcting you. In one of those two posts you had senate and congress when referring to the two houses It's the senate and the house of representatives. And I'm from Iowa, it's the state that's not important in the midwest, let alone the Whole US, well, other than corn production

it sounds like a shocking figure but considering the US economy is quite considerably larger than the combined EU's anyway it's not.

and I'm not causing any offense but how's the euro BTW? Yeah, not that good, I hear that at least Greece and Italy are having constant problems and Spain is on that boat with them (at least a 25% unemployment rate) (Those are Eurozone Countries right?)
Everyone is trying to dig themselves out of a hole right now. There are way worse countries than the US right now.

It doesn't matter the dollar amount, it matters the Debt to GDP ratio, which is much worse in other countries. the USA debt isn't actually that bad.
Think of it this way.. who has worse debt problems... -a teacher that makes 40k a year salary with a 20 thousand dollar debt or -a doctor who makes 200k a year salary with a 60 thousand dollar debt The doctor owes more money, but still the teacher has worse debt.

Funny how these debts only matter when democrats are in office. I really hope hope Romney wins the next election, just so Americans can really understand what it's like living in a conservative eutopia. The Ryan budget will be actioned and all those racist white folks who voted against Obama because "he's not one of them", will suddenly realise that government does more for their lives than they realise. I'm amazed that this race is even close, and I'm more amazed that the collective amnesia that seems to have erased how bad the last republican was. Romney's background is racist and homophobic, so the saying that "we get the politicians we deserve," is alive and well, on both sides of the Atlantic. |

A really good and strong post JHC, very valid points, I was talking to my Aunt and Cousins who live in Los Angeles and oddly enough they were saying much the same as what you do above and in your other posts here too. They really dread a Romney win in the election to come, also like you they are confused as to why the polls have him so close to Obama anyway. |

you know what's funny? Back in the civil war, The Dems were the racists and Republicans weren't then it changed.
The only hope that Obama has is that Ron Paul runs as an independent. There will be enough people that are crazy enough that'll vote for him and it'll steal the votes that Romney needs

Barack Obama has spent less money overall than his predecessors. If it wasn't for President Obama, the economy would have tanked, and our auto industry would have taken a nosedive. Stay out of American politics. |

The republicans didn't start those wars, Al Queda and Saddam Hussein did.

AL Queda isn't a country, and Saddam Hussein allowed in the inspectors. To invade the whole of Afghanistan to find Bin Laden was negligent, to invade Iraq based on manufactured lies, is criminal.

al queda were based in afghanistan and the afghani government refused to bring them to justice, there were no manufactured lies about iraq, Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait and tried to steal their oil, that's fact, nothing manufactured about that.

I know there isn't a country capable of that, but hypothetically speaking. You're talking about the first Iraq war, I was talking about the second one. |
